There is a lot of gorgeous nature in the state even within an easy drive of the 2 major cities. In my opinion, the Pittsburgh skyline is easily tied with Chicago for the best in the country. A historic incline ride takes you up to one of the most scenic viewpoints in the country. Both cities are home to wonderful botanical gardens which are perfect escapes during the long cold winter season. Outside of the cities, I love leaf peeping at McConnells MIll and hiking at Tyler State Park.
Philadelphia is a history buff's dream destination. Here you can tour the building where the Declaration of Independence and US Constitution were signed, see the crack in the Liberty Bell, and see George Washington's tent at the Museum of the American Revolution.
