South Carolina

Despite its' poor ranking in livability polls, I enjoyed my time living in "The Upstate." This beautiful region of the state is home to so many gorgeous state parks and waterfalls. For history buffs, you can't get much better than Charleston and Savannah which are amongst the top historic destinations in the country. For beach lovers, you have 60+ miles of beachfront to enjoy in an area named "The Grand Strand."

While living in Greenville (a great base for exploring the Upstate), I took many daytrips to all the wonderful state parks of the region including Caesars Head and Jones Gap which join together to form an 11,000 acre area known as the Mountain Bridge Wilderness. If you are checking national parks off your bucket list, Congaree is a hidden gem featuring the tallest loblolly pines in the world (they are often called "the Redwoods of the East").

SC Bucket List

I am a history buff so I enjoyed the easy access to hotspots like Charleston and Savannah from Greenville. These historical cities are must-sees if you like history or haunts (which are abundant in both cities). Also, if you like beaches, you can't pass up on a trip to Hilton Head Island or Myrtle beach. Both offer a range of amenities in addition to beautiful white sand beaches.

Greenville

This hot city has often been called one of the top foodie cities in the nation. The thriving Main Street district draws tourist from all over. During my time living here, you could find me shopping, dining local, and enjoying beautiful Reedy River Falls (located in a gorgeous central park) nearly every weekends. In terms of "perfect downtowns," it doesn't get much better than Greenville.

Savannah

One of the best vacation destinations for history buffs is no doubt Savannah. The city is well organized and it's so easy to get around. You can tour the city's 22 public squares or sign up for a fun walking/trolley tour to learn more as you sightsee. It also a Halloween and paranormal hotspot, so dare to stay in a haunted property like the East Bay Inn (we saw no ghostly visions but loved the historic ambiance!).
