Swan Terrace Restaurant is located inside the Founders Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach. During our stay at Founders, we tried out the breakfast buffet on 2 mornings. They also offer a lunch buffet, dinner menu, and weekend brunch. Various events are held throughout the year. The breakfast buffet can also be combined with a room for a special rate which is the best deal if you are staying at the property anyways.
The breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing as it seemed to be more of an expanded continental breakfast. Choices on the buffet line included: juices, fruit, oatmeal, toast, cereals, and a few hot entrees such as scrambled eggs, pancakes, meats, and potatoes. I have seen the majority of these items at a typical hotel continental breakfast. The main different was a made-to-order omelet bar. That being said, the food was decent enough to warrant a second visit.
And at a hefty $14 per person price, I just don’t think it was worth the cost. I expected much more variety! Update: As of 2022, the buffet price has jumped up to $18 per person. The highlight our dining experience was the wonderful service – both waiters were very professional, cheerful, and prompt.
One of this benefits of enjoying breakfast here is that it is located right on site at the Founders Inn, therefore, taking out the hassle of driving stress and deciding where to eat. We were looking to keep it low-key on this vacation instead of driving around the entire time. We drove all the way from Massachusetts (a long 10 hour drive!) just to get here so we wanted to avoid driving as much as possible. It’s always nice to have a few restaurants conveniently on-site especially for breakfast.
On another plus side, the dining room is set in a nice elegant room with beautiful chandeliers and fireplaces. The beautiful ambiance is definitely a big plus. We had a window seat with beautiful views of the garden. I recommend getting up early to enjoy a prime window seat. During the summer season, it will be to your benefit to do any exercise early before the heat and humidity sets in!
I would not go out of your way to dine at this restaurant. However, if already staying at the property, I recommend enjoying breakfast here for the convenience, great food, and great ambiance.

More to do in the area
There are lots of fun things to do in Virginia, Beach, especially if you love the outdoors, recreation, and the beach. In addition to great beaches, there are a number of preserves, plenty of beach cafes, a top ranked aquarium, and a gorgeous multi purpose recreational path that runs alongside the water. Here’s what I recommend putting on your bucket list:
Virginia Beach Aquarium – A beautiful facility housing a 300,000 gallon shark tank (this 2 story attraction features various shark species and stingrays). This is a great activity when the temps are just too hot and humid to do anything outside! See more pics from our visit.

The Boardwalk: A gorgeous uninterrupted 3 mile path that runs alongside the beach. I really love that they separate it into a convenient biking and pedestrian only path – it helps with the congestion.
