La Scala Italian in Randolph, Massachusetts

On the way home from Boston one day, Mike and I were searching for an Italian restaurant. One of the things we love about living here is that it is so easy to find good food all over, not just in the city. Whether we are biking, visiting a beach, or strolling a museum, we always find great restaurants nearby (even in the suburbs!).

We happened to pass a sign for a restaurant called La Scala in suburban Randolph. The restaurant was much fancier than we expected for a suburban location. Unfortunately, we arrived a half hour before the dining room opened, so we had to take a seat in the bar area. To our surprise, the bar area was very elegant with the most gorgeous decor. The entire restaurant was decorated so nicely – I appreciate when restaurants put more time and creativity into designing their space. The dining experience to me is about the ambiance, just as much as the food.

Delicious & affordable Italian cuisine

The dinner menu consists of Italian classics such as Ravioli, different pasta/sauce combos, and plenty of chicken and veal entrees. They also offer a lunch menu where the prices are a bit cheaper, so this is the time to go if you want to save a few bucks.

I had my choice of 3 vegetarian entrees: Fettuccine Alfredo, Baked Ziti, and Baked Manicotti. I decided to go with the Ziti as I almost always order Alfredo in every Italian restaurant. This was a great choice as the Homemade Ziti was fantastic!

It had just the right amount of cheese and I loved that it was served with an extra side of sauce. The homemade marinara sauce was so flavorful.

Mike ordered the Homemade Baked Manicotti, which was similar to the Ziti, but less cheesy. They both were delicious, although the Ziti is the clear winner for me. Each entree is served with a basket of bread and butter which was also delicious. Salads are an additional add on. Update: Salads are now included which is a nice bonus.

A gorgeous date night destination

The bar area is very pretty with an old world Italian ambiance that you don’t find much anymore. The high ceilings, beautiful decor, and nice woodwork add to the atmosphere. The vibe is cozy & romantic, probably even more so in the evening I imagine with the live piano player. We would love to plan a dinner date here one of these days. The food, service, and decor are all perfect!

The food and atmosphere were definitely nice enough to bring us back for a second visit. I would come back again for the delicious food, affordable pricing, and inviting authentic Italian atmosphere. This local Italian gem is the perfect choice for those of you who do not want to deal with the hassle of driving into the city. It’s also a great choice if you have been walking around the city all day and are looking for somewhere more low-key to enjoy dinner on your way home Randolph is located about 20 minutes outside of the city congestion.

One con: Bring with cash – no debit or credit cards are accepted! This is a bit inconvenient, especially when you are spending a lot of money. However, I’ll take the inconvenience in exchange for delicious home cooked food that I can’t easily replicate at home!
