On our return trip from hiking at Great Neck Wildlife Refuge, Mike and I caught a glimpse of a beautiful beach in Buzzards Bay. We decided to pull over and take a walk. Little Harbor Beach, located in Wareham is just a short drive away from Cape Cod. Getting out into the fresh air was nice as we have been stuck inside in the heat for way too long. Sure, we work out at the gym most of the time, but it’s always refreshing to get out into the fresh air when your windows have been locked shut for months on end.
We came looking for sea glass, but instead left with a few great pictures. Seaglass is usually abundant. I have seen this beach listed on many “best of” lists. Unfortunately, it was too cold to do much hunting. I was a bit disappointed as I am a big collector, however, I’ll try again this spring.
The icy backdrop definitely impressed me. I would love to come back during the spring to search for seaglass. It is one of my favorite hobbies and this beach offers the perfect isolated, atmospheric setting for a day seeking frosty gems. Another great Cape Cod beach for collecting is Scusset. I found some pretty nice pieces here including a perfectly tumbled turquoise blue piece.
Take a look at a few of the beautiful views we enjoyed on this cold, blustery February morning. Yes, it will be cold during the winter months. Bundle up, bring with a hot cocoa or coffee, and enjoy the peaceful scenery all to yourself. We had the entire beach to ourselves which was a nice exchange for the cold in my opinion.
Wintertime offers the rare opportunity to enjoy beautiful Cape Cod beaches in a secluded setting. If you have ever vacationed here in the summer, then you know it gets pretty crowded with tourists and second home owners from big cities in the Northeast. There are some great hikes and bike trails which I recommend checking out during the warmer months.
But really the beaches are incredible during the off season. I recommend taking advantage of enjoying the scenery with no one else around. Some of my best experiences in this area have been during the isolated cold season. I actually wrote a little guide on why I love New England so much during the winter months!

In the summer this beach is popular with swimmers and kayakers. In the off season, it’s best for beach strolls and maybe beachcombing if the temps aren’t too cold. It’s also a great year-round birding destination. Many rare species like piping plovers make appearances. If you are a birdwatcher, definitely add it to your must-see list.
This beach is located on Little Harbor Road in Wareham. Parking is free.
More to do in Cape Cod
Cape Cod is one of the more beautiful vacation destinations in the state and maybe even the Northeast. There are so parks and beaches to enjoy, many of which are free. I highly recommend exploring this area during the springs months. The summer crowds will not have arrived yet and the temps will be perfect for any type of recreation.
