Arthur’s in Dixon, Illinois: A Local Favorite!

Dixon is a small town located about an hour outside of Rockford and 2 hours north of Chicago. Most notably, the town is famous for being the hometown of 40th President Ronald Reagan. Arthur’s is definitely the place locals go to eat. This is a casual cafe which serves sandwiches, soups, pasta salads, and baked potatoes. Mike and I stop here anytime we are back in town visiting family members. The food is always predictably good.
After touring the Reagan House, I recommend stopping by this local favorite for some comfort food. They offer so many tasty baked potato bowls and also a rotating lineup of fresh soups. Recent soups I’ve seen include: Chicken Noodle, Potato, and Broccoli Parmesan. Potato bowls include options like: Broccoli and Cheddar, Turkey and Cheddar, and Chilli and Cheddar. Sandwich options include: Chicken and Cheddar, Pastrami and Swiss, Veggie and cheese and various others. There is a bit of something for everyone, even vegetarians. I’ve had no problem every finding something.
There is even a small salad bar which you can add to any entree. In addition to hot entrees, you will also find homemade potato salads, Eli’s cheesecake varieties, fresh fruit, and a frozen yogurt bar. They offer a quiche of the day an several homemade soups. Take a peek at the menu below.
I’ve always wanted to try the quiche but it always has bacon or some other type of meat whenever I visit. My go to is typically the veggie baked potato bowl, which is a tasty combo of cheese, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, and onion. I love this bowl! I also add on the salad bar, which is a bit small but contains all your typical toppings. Update: As of 2023, Arthurs no longer offers the salad bar.
Mike usually orders the Chicken Breast and Cheddar sandwich. He also loves the veggie pasta salad and macaroni salad, as well as the Eli’s Cheesecake (Reese’s flavor) for dessert. If you’ve never tried it before, Eli’s is a popular bakery which originated in Chicago decades ago.
We always make room for a stop at Arthur’s for lunch anytime we are in town. The delicious baked potato bowls, soup, deli sides & cheesecake will keep you coming back for more. Prices are super affordable with sandwiches priced around 5 bucks and potato bowls around 7. It’s a great casual stop that is sure to please everyone in the family.
