The Ice Cream Barn in Swansea, Massachusetts

Enjoying a cool ice cream treat on a hot summer’s day is one of the best perks about the summer season. I am not a big fan of heat and humidity, but I do love to cool off with a delicious ice cream cone. The Ice Cream Barn in Swansea, Massachusetts is the perfect summer stop for homemade ice cream. This is hands down the best homemade ice cream shop we have found since relocating to the Fall River area. Not only is the ice cream itself great, but the setting is also wonderful.

The Barn opened in 2012, and since then has been a favorite treat amongst Southeast Massachusetts residents and anyone else willing to travel for great ice cream. 6th generation members of the family continue to keep the dream going. All locally grown ingredients are used, so this is the place to go if you are seeking a healthier summer treat! The country setting is perfect, the staff is friendly, and most importantly the ice cream is delicious!

Fresh from the farm!

All the ice cream is made on site at the farm and they even make their own fresh waffle cones! You can smell the waffle cones cooking as soon as you walk in. There are plenty of flavors available for everyone. Check out the list below of a few of the rotating flavors. Note that flavors may change by season.

My personal favorite has always been cookie dough. I almost always order it even if there are so many other flavors I want to try. I figure I can always try a few bites of whatever crazy flavor Mike is ordering!

I don’t have a huge sweet tooth, but I do indulge in an ice cream cone at least a few times per month every summer season.

The portions are pretty large here. Even the small ice cream cones are enormous! A large cone is easily enough for 2 people and this is what we usually order so we can both pick a flavor. The ice cream is very affordable, especially for the large sizes ($4-6 depending on the size). This is one of the best ice cream cones I have tasted in the New England area. I highly recommend checking it out on your next visit to the Southeastern Massachusetts area!

Also, while you are in the region, I recommend taking a walk along the Fall River Heritage State Park. It’s a beautiful place and also home to a few historic attractions including an antique carousel and Battleship Cove. Of course, touring the infamous Lizzie Borden house is always number 1 on my things to do for new tourists.
