Corner Cafe in Newport, Rhode Island

Mike and I were looking for a great place for breakfast this weekend before exploring Newport. We have been driving out to this beautiful city frequently since moving to nearby Fall River, MA which is an easy 30 minute drive. Corner Cafe is a cozy local breakfast & lunch restaurant located in the historic area of the city. It has repeatedly been rated one of the top 3 restaurants in the city.

They serve breakfast all day which is nice and also lunch. For breakfast, you will find your standard fare like omelets, scramblers, pancakes, French toast, benedicts, and breakfast burritos. They also offer a number of healthier selections like oatmeal, scrambled eggs whites, and whole grain pancakes.

I haven’t ordered anything from the lunch menu but it looks pretty good. Asides from the usual burgers, sandwiches, and wraps, they offer a number of creative quesadillas and also a healthy menu. There are numerous vegetarian friendly choices which is quite rare for a small cafe.

If you are planning on exploring all the sights in this wonderful coastal city, this local gem is a great place to begin your journey. There was a 30 minute wait, however, it was worth it! The food was great. I ordered from the make-your-own-omelet menu (a delicious veggie creation). It was served with red potatoes and your choice of toast or an English muffin (I chose toast).

Brick wall at Corner Cafe in Newport, RI
The seating area is very cozy and casual. I love the old-school brick wall

Most of the restaurants in this area are very pricey, so I was very surprised to see such an affordable menu (make your own omelets started out at only $8). Everything was fresh with a homemade taste.

The restaurant is small but features a cozy, home style ambiance. The brick walls and wood floors give the place historic charm. I love dining at any restaurant today that puts in a bit of effort in the design department. There are too many bland chains everywhere, so anything with a historic touch stands out to me.

This restaurant was a great stop for breakfast before participating in other activities in the area. One downside is that there is no parking lot, so you have to attempt to find street parking (luckily we found something close, but I imagine it gets pretty crowded on a typical Saturday or Sunday morning).

Overall, it was one of best breakfasts I have tried in the Rhode Island area thus far, and ironically enough one of the cheapest too!

UPDATE: Prices are up a bit as of 2024- please check the current menu for full details. Nevertheless, the quality and great location still make it worth a visit in my book. Recent options include: Athena Greek omelet, Irishmen Omelet, and Portabella Scrambler.
