10. Paso Robles, California
Paso Robles is a small town in the center of California’s beautiful Wine Country region. From here, you can get to many beautiful areas and attractions like Hearst Castle, the beautiful beaches of Monterey Bay, and beautiful Morro Bay.
Unlike some other more pricey towns in the area, Paso Robles offers more budget friendly lodging and dining options. The setting is casual and friendly, perfect for a low-key vacation. Although summer hotel rates can get pricey, the spring season is a great time to find inns and motels in the mid 100’s range.
Budget friendly fun in the area
*Enjoying free wine tastings – Most of the vineyards in the area do not charge for wine tastings. The tastings will allow you to sample a variety of new flavors. You can also take a tour of the vineyard and learn more about the wine making process. You might even discover a new favorite.
*Soaking in the healing waters of a natural hot springs – River Oaks Hot Springs Spa is a fantastic place to rejuvenate and repair your body through a relaxing soak in natural mineral water. While you soak in one of the outdoor tubs, you will be treated to gorgeous views of the natural rolling hills of the area.
The high mineral content of the waters is said to be extremely healing for various diseases, and also great for soothing sore muscles. People have been using these springs for thousands of years to cure all sorts of problems. The water is naturally between 96-102 degrees, providing the perfect temperature for a relaxing soak.
*Scenic biking riding alongside the rolling hills – The natural landscape of the area provides the perfect setting for a picturesque bike ride. The gorgeous views of rolling hills and vineyards and gorgeous mild sunny spring weather lead way for the perfect riding conditions. The nearby town of Templeton offers many rural back roads which are perfect for leisurely cycling.
*Planning for a day trip to Morro Bay – A quick scenic 40 min or so drive over to Morro Bay will give you even more opportunities for budget fun. In Morro Bay, you will have Morro Bay State Park, Morro Rock, Morro Bay National Estuary, beaches, shopping, and a great selection of waterfront restaurants. We found this great little Italian restaurant called Distasio’s. on the Bay.
