This weekend, Mike and I had the pleasure of trying out Ohana Café, a great Hawaiian style restaurant in Palm Harbor, Florida. For those of you unfamiliar, Palm Harbor is a small community located about 20 minutes from Clearwater and 40 minutes from Tampa. This particular section of Palm Harbor, where Ohana Café is located, has an interesting vibe with a few unique restaurants, all with an island type theme.
The outdoor dining area at Ohana is great for enjoying a weekend night out with friends or families. A bit warm and humid on the night we visited, but a great option on cooler nights. Plus, if you get lucky you might get to see some hula dancers (check the website for a live entertainment schedule).
These lizards are everywhere in Florida!
Ohana Café has a great menu, which includes choices for all different types of diets, including: vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Each sandwich or wrap has the choice of being served with a gluten free brown rice wrap, which has a bit of a different texture than wheat, but still tastes great!
The menu is marked according to allergen, however, if you have a question the staff is more than willing to assist. Most of the produce they use is organic and they only use antibiotic free meats and cheeses. They carry a nice selection of gluten free beers and organic wines as well.
During lunch hours, you will find a great selection of wraps, sandwiches, and appetizers. Dinner options include a selection of sandwiches, tacos and burritos. Breakfast, which is served all day on weekends, includes a varied selection of familiar and new dishes including: oatmeal bowls, omelets, smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and more.
We ordered the very vegan tacos and the black bean quinoa burritos. We mixed and matched so we both got to experience a bit of both flavors. They were both terrific, especially the vegan tacos.
As you can see in the picture below, the Very Vegan tacos were stuffed to the brim with plenty of black beans, a cilantro lime slaw, bell peppers, and avocado! Delicious!
The Black Bean Quinoa burrito was an interesting healthy combination with a bit of a Hawaiian kick: black beans, quinoa, spinach, onions, cilantro lime slaw, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, and pineapple slices.
I would definitely visit Ohana again! We enjoyed the variety of nutritious dining options and the lively outdoor dining atmosphere.
