Mehfil is a great local Indian restaurant in downtown Asheville. They serve delicious authentic Indian cuisine in a beautiful dining environment. Thanks to the convenient downtown location, you are within walking distance of many other notable city attractions including Woolworth Walk (indoor art gallery), as well as numerous gift shops, galleries, and bars.
The food at Mehfil is pure deliciousness. The afternoon buffet is affordably priced and quite diverse in terms of offerings. The nice thing about Mehfil is that they offer plenty of vegetarian options. Another bonus is the food is not too spicy, so you can enjoy the flavor of each entree as opposed to just tasting the intense spice and heading for the water after each bite.
A few highlights on the buffet lineup have included: Tandoori Vegetables, Tandoori Chicken, Pakoras, Shahi Paneer, Saag Aloo, fresh Naan bread, and Kheer (Indian style pudding for dessert). Note that the buffet lineup may be different any given day. I do appreciate that there are always tons of tempting vegetarian options to choose amongst.
Everything is freshly prepared and restocked as needed. Despite the busy crowds at lunch, staff is always restocking and cleaning the buffet line.
Service at Mehfil is outstanding. The staff treats each guest as a valued customer. Waiters are super polite and accommodating and will answer any questions you may have about the menu/buffet. It is one of the few places downtown where I have actually been asked if I enjoyed my meal. I love visiting during the week for a nice afternoon workday lunch.
The dining room is absolutely gorgeous. The decor is modern and colorful. I love the unique colorful umbrellas which decorate the ceiling. If you arrive early enough, enjoy a seat by the window so you can people watch as you dine.
Mehfil, while quite new in town, is easily the best Indian buffet in Asheville. If you are visiting downtown for the day, definitely head over during lunch hours to enjoy the scrumptious buffet. You will not be disappointed in the diversity of options, the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the beautiful decor.
