La Scala was an unexpected treat on the way home from Boston. Mike and I were attempting to find any restaurant in the area with Italian food and lucked into randomly picking La Scala. We got there a little early - about a half hour before they started serving dinner, however, the bar area was just fine for enjoying a great meal. We loved both our entrees and the lovely setting. We would definitely dine here again, no question.
The dinner menu consisted largely of Chicken and Veal dishes. I had a hard time finding a vegetarian dish, however, the one I found was absolutely delicious. This was my first time trying Baked Ziti but wow was it excellent! The perfect noodles, ricotta and mozzarella cheese, and homemade marinara combination. I have never seen Ziti offered as a vegetarian dish, so it was great for me to be able to try something besides my standard Alfredo.
Mike ordered the Homemade Manicotti, which he said was one of the best versions he has ever tasted. I tried both dishes and although both were delicious, I definitely give the Ziti the heads up!
Other entrees include Homemade Gnocchi and Lasagna, Linguine with Shrimp and Crabs, a variety of Chicken and Veal based dishes, and Eggplant Parmesan. Note that you will save a few bucks on each entree if you visit during lunch hours.
Service was great considering the bartender was doubling as our waitress. Drinks were filled promptly, our waitress was friendly, and we were brought out a refill of fresh bread & olive oil, which was delicious.
The bar area is beautiful with high ceilings and great decor. I loved the Romeo and Juliet style balcony; it really gave the restaurant a romantic feeling. La Scala would make a perfect date night out!
I am not a big fan of visiting a restaurant again unless I really enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere. La Scala was excellent in all 3 aspects, therefore, I would likely make a return visit. I would love to try the Eggplant Parmesan or the Fettucini Alfredo on my next visit. The dessert menu also looks great: I would love to try the cheesecake with strawberries or the lemon mousse cake.
