Stax Omega is the place to go in Greenville if you are looking for a family diner that offers a big breakfast menu. This diner not only offers the biggest menu in town, but also offers the most delicious hearty breakfast fare in town.
Everything is really great here (especially the skillets), and the setting is super cozy and relaxed as an extra bonus. Skip all the crowded Main St tourist cafes in favor of this local gem.
Stax offers your traditional big breakfast menu. Breakfast includes all the traditional fare...omelets, skillets, waffles, French toast, etc. Be on the lookout for their fabulous seasonal specials. They offer amazing pumpkin pancakes in the fall and the most delicious seasonal Red Velvet waffle. Both are not to be missed by anyone with a sweet tooth.
For something a bit more savory, you really cannot go wrong with a classic omelet or skillet. The omelets here are hands down the best in town. Each is overflowing with whichever toppings you choose and served with perfectly cooked and seasoned home fries. And then, you have your choice of toast, an English muffin, or a biscuit. Let's just say this - you will not leave hungry!
The Veggie Skillet is another top notch dish, and one of the best skillets I've ever had. This hearty dish consists of a medley of perfectly seasoned veggies, potatoes, and 2 eggs your way, all deliciously meshed together in the most fulfilling breakfast bowl. Served with a slice of toast, you will not leave hungry when ordering this one!
You will find a full coffee menu with various specialty espresso based drinks. The house drip is the best way to go. Linger on a little longer as you enjoy endless cups of coffee. The coffee is always perfectly brewed, and is neither too dark, nor too weak.
Lunch is also a great time to visit - there are almost as many options as breakfast. The Southern Comfort entree really is the way to go. For this dish, you get to choose 4 vegetable sides or a meat dish with 2 sides. Each is served with delicious homemade cornbread. Really, all the sides are so delicious, particularly the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Comfort food at its' best!
Or go Southern style and enjoy black eyed peas, fried okra, or sweet potato crunch. You can even choose peach cobbler as a side!
Salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, soups, various Greek & Italian entrees - Stax offers your big lineup of standard American diner fare where you can order just about anything and everything. The difference in a good vs poor diner usually comes down to the quality of the food. Stax excels in this department as has even been ranked one of the best diners in the South by Southern Living Magazine.
On a side note, there is a full bakery, so if you need a treat for a special occasion, Stax is definitely the way to go!
Service at Stax is always friendly. The food comes out fast, sometimes too fast! This place has that local vibe which is all too missing from most of Greenville's more trendy dining establishments.
This cozy cafe has a traditional old-school diner appeal. The place is spacious and homey and definitely has that local vibe which is missing at most newer downtown Greenville establishments. This is the place to enjoy a comfort meal in a laid-back setting.
As an added bonus, Stax always puts up quite an elaborate Halloween and Christmas display. It's nice to see the decor change along with the seasons!
Update: Unfortunately, Stax continues to increase their menu prices. Also service has gone downhill. On a side note, I noticed some people saying that the restaurant has gotten very dirty. While it was clean every time we visited, this may have changed.
Put Stax high on your bucket list when deciding where to get breakfast in Greenville. There is no better place for breakfast in town. Whether you are craving a savory skillet, a fluffy plate of pancakes, or a veggie packed omelet with a side of perfectly cooked hash browns, you will find all this and more at Stax.
