Mama Mia Trattoria in downtown Portland is the place to go for authentic Italian cuisine in the city. If you are craving quality traditional Italian food, this really is the place to go for dinner. The beautiful ambiance, great service, and exquisite home-cooked fare make Mama Mia Trattoria the perfect choice for anyone seeking a great place to enjoy dinner out in the city. Mike and I enjoyed everything about this restaurant. It was by far the top restaurant we dined at during our Portland vacation.
Everything at Mama Mia is made from scratch, including the sauces, mozzarella cheese, gelato, and desserts! If you love traditional, old-school Italian, this is the best choice in the city by far. This local gem offers a full menu of timeless Italian classics like Chicken & Eggplant Parmesan, Lasagna, Chicken & Veal Marsala, along with all your favorite pasta dishes.
As far as appetizers go, their homemade minestrone soup is amazing. I could have easily ordered another bowl. During our visit, they offered a fabulous 3 course special, which included an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. We tested out the Chicken Scallopini Piccata and the Pasta Pesto, both of which were amazing. We capped off our meal with the most delicious slice of cheesecake. As a bonus, they even make all desserts from scratch!
In keeping up with the Portland health conscious vibe, they offer gluten-free pasta for a few dollars more, and a variety of dishes can be made vegan or vegetarian.
Service was wonderful. Our waiter was very professional and attentive.
The setting is really elegant with 20 crystal chandeliers and 50 gilded mirrors throughout the luxurious dining room. This really is the perfect restaurant for celebrating any type of special occasion. The ambiance is very classy, although laid-back enough to avoid feeling stuffy. The amazing decor and food really make this a perfect date night destination in my opinion.
Mama Mia Trattoria is a great place to enjoy a fine dining experience in the heart of Portland. Located just minutes away from the waterfront, great shopping and numerous other downtown attractions, it's a convenient dinner choice for anyone heading out on the town. If you happen to be staying at the wonderful Kimpton Hotel Monaco, this fabulous restaurant is within walking distance. I will definitely return to this restaurant on my next visit to Portland.
