Cold Mountain Cafe made for a cozy relaxing lunch destination after a long drive up to the White Mountains. Mike and I stopped in here for lunch before checking into the Bear Mountain Lodge Bed and Breakfast. We had about an hour to spare and decided to stop in town at this cafe for a light lunch. We were pleased with both the food and the lovely ambiance.
We both ordered the quiche/soup combo. The quiche of the day was broccoli cheese. Soup was your choice of winter vegetable or butternut squash. I am a big fan of butternut squash, however I opted for trying something different and I am glad that I did! The soup was fantastic, so fresh and homemade!
I love quiche (this one tasted just like the one I usually get from Whole Foods). The combo was $8, which was a little pricey for the serving size (1 small piece of quiche and a bowl of soup). However, the food was fantastic and I would rather pay more for better quality food then have a large serving of unappetizing food.
Update: this restaurant now only serves dinner. The menu includes a mix of small plates and entrees. Small plates include options such as tofu tots, locally sourced exotic mushrooms, and a hummus plate served with pita. Be sure to try their signature Black Bean Cakes! Dessert options include a Chocolate Torte and Key Lime pie.
Our waitress was decent although the restaurant was not very busy and there was not much to serve as we only ordered the soup and salad combo. We did not experience any problems. She was pretty helpful about answering some questions about vegetarian ingredients on the menu.
This cafe is very small, however, the dining room is cozy and elegant. I liked the peaceful artwork on the walls (check out the small art gallery right next door). I also liked that they left a glass jar of water on the table so that you did not have to worry about asking for refills.
Cold Mountain Cafe is a fantastic choice for a light healthy lunch. If we ever take another trip up to Bethlehem New Hampshire, we will definitely be stopping in again for the soup alone. It's such a cute place and it is nice to come across a unique restaurant today with all the chains starting to overtake all the mom and pop restaurants across the US.
