If you are a fan of biscuits, you will definitely want to make room for a breakfast stop at Biscuit Head while you are exploring downtown Greenville. This super popular breakfast spot, known for their "biscuits as big as a cat's head" has won numerous awards and is very popular with tourists. It originally opened in the trendy foodie haven of Asheville, and was so popular that the owners opened a second location in Greenville. While living in Greenville area, Biscuit Head was part of my regular rotation of breakfast restaurants. The scratch made biscuits are so delicious and I love the self service jam bar and many vegan options.
"Put some South in your mouth" at Biscuit Head where you can mix and match different homemade gravies or opt to top your biscuit with dozens of fruity flavors at a self service jam bar. Cathead biscuits, a true Southern staple, are big and delicious and you will likely be filled up with just one. A great deal here is the Half Breakfast special which includes 2 eggs, a side, and biscuit for just 6 bucks. Gravy flight specials are another great deal as you get to enjoy 3 specialty gravies. Update: As of 2025, the Half Breakfast special is $9 - still under 10 bucks so a great deal.
Those with special dietary needs will be pleased to know that they offer a gluten-free/vegan biscuit plus 2 vegan gravies (vegan sausage and a sweet potato coconut). The jam/butter/honey bar is very diverse with so many flavorful options. They even offer a vegan butter substitute. A full coffee menu is available, as well as espresso, tea, hot chocolate, and orange juice.
Service can be dreadfully slow on busy weekends. Be prepared for a lengthy wait to order and then to get your food. The staff seems pretty patient despite putting up with massive crowds and noise every morning.
Biscuit Head is a busy, busy place. Even if you arrive early in the morning, you are pretty much guaranteed a lengthy wait. Oftentimes, a line begins to form prior to opening. This is even more so the case on weekends. Despite the hefty wait, Biscuit Head is a delicious and affordable breakfast option. The space is huge (2 floors), although sometimes it can still be quite difficult to find a seat! If weather permits, consider opting for a seat on the less congested patio.
Biscuit Head is a must try for any biscuit lover visiting Greenville. As long as you are willing to wait, you will be rewarded with the most delicious Southern style biscuits and more topping options than you ever could possibly imagine! Whether you like your biscuits topped with gravy, honey, or jam, you can customize to your own preferences at this regional gem.
