Tupelo Honey is a trendy Southern style chain which originally opened its' doors in foodie hotspot Asheville back in 2000. Since then, Tupelo has spread to include numerous locations all over the Southeast. Additionally, the chain has won numerous awards including "Best Southern cuisine" and "best biscuits." If you are craving some tasty home cooked Southern cuisine, you really cannot go wrong with a visit to this gem in downtown Greenville. They are most well-known for their delicious homestyle biscuits, served with honey. I can say that they did not disappoint!
Tupelo serves a full lineup of Southern style entrees, with the menu changing along with the seasons. Brunch is a great time to plan your visit as there are numerous specials and lots of interesting choices including cast iron pimento cheese dip, fried green tomatoes, and smothered chicken and biscuits.
First off, you will be served a plate of hot Southern style biscuits. Whether you top them with honey or jam, you will definitely be asking for more! Best biscuits in town, hands down! Update: there is now a small fee for biscuits.
For breakfast, try the Old Skool Breakfast Bowl. This delicious entree includes a mix of eggs, black eyed peas, salsa, parmesan and rosemary potatoes, cheddar cheese, and goat cheese grits. Be sure to treat yourself to a delicious stack of Sweet potato pancakes if you have a sweet tooth!
If visiting for lunch or dinner, consider trying out the the Farm Fresh Vegetable. This is one of the best values on the menu as you get to mix and match 4 sides. All the sides are super delicious: the hard part is deciding which to order! Personally, I like the mac and cheese and rosemary potatoes.
Additionally, you will find fresh salads, sandwiches and burgers, fried & roasted chicken plates (Tupelo's specialty), lots of comforting appetizers, and numerous Southern traditional fare like Shrimp and Grits, Chicken and Waffles, Southern Chicken BLT, Whiskey and onion smashburger, and Low Country Catfish on the menu. They offer great lunch specials too.
The waitstaff is always great at Tupelo. You can always expect prompt and friendly service even if the restaurant is super busy.
Tupelo Honey is located in the midst of all the action in downtown Greenville. The location is perfect as it is within walking distance of numerous attractions including the fantastic Mast General Store and Methodical, the best local coffee roaster. The inside is small and always bustling with tourists. The vibe is energetic and appealing. The setting is upscale, yet not stuffy. I like dining on the patio during the cooler spring and fall months.
Tupelo Honey is one of the best choices in town for Southern style cuisine. The best biscuits in town, affordable pricing, fantastic service, and a lively setting all combine to make Tupelo one of the best-of-the-best of downtown Greenville. I've dined here often for breakfast and occasionally for dinner since moving to Greenville.
