One of the most relaxing things to do in Sin City, which many visitors unfortunately are unaware of, is to take a stroll through the Wildlife Habitat at The Flamingo Resort. The grounds of the Strip’s oldest resort are elaborately landscaped with all sorts of lush tropical plants. I didn’t know about this place until fairly recently, but I am always on the lookout for peaceful things to do in this hectic city. While it is fun to see all the high energy shows, sometimes a Vegas vacation is just too much. There’s so many people, so much noise, so many lights that the entire experience can be overwhelming. After just one day, I am usually ready for a break.
A stroll around this lush habitat will make you feel as if you have escaped The Strip. It’s hard to believe that you are still in the dry desert with all the greenery and water! Because it does not get overly crowded, this peaceful garden is a wonderful place to escape everything for an hour or 2. Fortunately, it is open to non resort guests too so anyone can take a break. It’s also smoke-free which I love (a great place to get away from all those smoky smelling casinos for a bit).

Koi ponds, waterfalls, exotic birds, and flamingos all come together to create the perfect tropical setting on the resort’s 15 acres. The best part of all is that this attraction is completely free! It would be a shame to miss out on one of the city’s best free attractions while in town. There are lots of great photo opps here, so be sure to bring your camera! You can even have your picture taken with a parrot!

The highlight here is the beautiful colorful flock of Chilean flamingos. You will also see pelicans, ducks, parrots, Ibis, swans, and turtles. These beautiful animals free roam around waterfalls and springs, creating a picture-perfect tropical setting. It’s nice to see some greenery and wildlife after days of smoky, noisy, man-made crowded casinos!

So far from the action, yet so close
Although this habitat is located just steps from the hustle and bustle of The Strip, you truly feel as if you are world’s away. While all the glamour and excitement is exciting, at times it can get overwhelming. On really crowded weekends, sometimes you just need a place to max out for a while – and you will definitely find that here.
As soon as you begin your peaceful stroll, you will literally feel all your stress from the day melt away. Whether you are upset that you lost too much money, starting to get irritated by the hefty crowds, or tiring of smoky casinos, you will find a much needed R&R break here.
In a city lacking many nature related entertainment offerings, this place truly is a hidden gem. For any nature and outdoors lovers out there, I would definitely recommend adding it to your bucket list. There are many free places to explore on The Strip, however, none as relaxing and beautiful as this. I make it a point to come here and refresh and rejuvenate when I tire of the noisy and crowds. A little break goes a long way in boosting energy.
