The Lobster Bar has everything you would look for in a great Newport, Rhode Island dining experience: fresh seafood and peaceful coastal views. As I had some family members in town who are big fans of seafood and wanted to dine somewhere in Newport along the waterfront, we decided The Lobster Bar would be a great choice.
We noticed the spectacular waterfront seating while taking a cruise aboard Gannett Cruise lines (highly recommended), and hence, chose to try it out. This restaurant is located in the Bowen's Wharf area of Newport, a popular tourist area home to waterfront restaurants, bars, cruises, and shops. We loved both the food and our experience dining on the wonderful outdoor patio which faced the waterfront.
The highlights of the menu include fresh local lobster and a Raw Bar. The menu is great if you like seafood. Highlight include: Clam Chowder, Seafood Chowder, Seared Scallops, Shrimp Ceviche, Lobster Roll, Lobster Pizza, Half Grilled Lobster, and the Cajun Grilled Swordfish sandwich. My dad really wants to try the Fisherman's Platter on his next visit. This fried plate includes whole belly clams, shrimp, scallops, atlantic cod, and fries. As you can see, there are more than enough tempting choices for the seafood lover. You may have a harder time finding options if you are on a special diet.
I am a vegetarian, so I opted for the Cucumber Salad, which was fresh and filling. Mike had the Chicken Caesar Wrap, which was the standard Chicken, Romaine Lettuce, and Caesar dressing combo. My dad ordered the Filet of Fish sandwich, which was beer battered Atlantic Cod on a roll. My dad, the picky eater, enjoyed his meal so it must have been good! This restaurant made me wish I ate seafood because everything looked so delicious. We also ordered a few appetizers including a basket of fries which were crispy perfection! Prices, especially for Lobster, were on the high side.
The service was a bit slow, however, the restaurant was extremely busy and I enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere sitting outside on the deck.
The atmosphere was absolutely perfect for a lazy summer afternoon! We chose to sit on the patio, which offers beautiful views of Newport Harbor. I loved watching the different boats and cruises taking off and coming back over the course of our lunch.
The Lobster Bar offers one of the best waterfront views out of all the restaurants in Newport. Dining on the beautiful patio is a wonderful experience on breezy summer days! I could sit out here for hour watching the boats go by. In addition to outdoor seating, bar seating and seating by the Raw Lobster Bar are available.
I would visit The Lobster Bar again, mainly for the views, as I am not a fan of seafood. Seafood lovers will love the fresh, local seafood options along with the gorgeous views of the harbor. What a perfect combination for a lovely day out in Newport!
