Sesame Inn is a wonderful Chinese chain with multiple locations in the Pittsburgh metro. They specialize in serving Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghai, Peking and Cantonese cuisine. Recently, a full sushi bar and numerous Thai entrees have been added to the menu. With a convenient location in downtown Mt. Lebanon, a diverse menu, and a beautiful ambiance, this is the perfect lunch stop while in the region.
The menu is diverse with over 100 enticing entrees to choose amongst. Whether you are craving traditional Chinese cuisine, sushi or Maki rolls, spicy Thai food, or something light and healthy, you can find it all on the Sesame menu.
The best time to plan your visit is during lunch hours, 11:30am-3pm, on Mondays-Saturdays. At this time, you can take advantage of a variety of lunch specials, all of which include plain or fried rice and an egg roll or soup (the egg drop is delicious!). Lunch specials include Seafood, Veggie, Chicken, Pork, and Beef options. A number of Maki Roll, Sushi, and Thai entree specials are also available.
The Fresh Garden Vegetables is a nice light healthy choice which includes steamed veggies with sauce on the side (prepared without MSG, salt, or oil). The Veggie Fried rice is also worth ordering.
Chef's specials include options like Shrimp with Eggplant, Sesame Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Chicken with Eggplant.
Service is attentive and the staff is willing to answer any questions you may have about the menu.
The vibe is casual and relaxed. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. It's never too crowded here, so a great choice if you are trying to avoid the more trendy dining establishments which tend to be noisy and crowded. Great place for a quiet dining experience! If I am stopping in the Mt. Lebanon area for errands or to enjoy nearby attractions like South Park, this is one of my preferred dining choices.
If you find yourself in the Mt. Lebanon area for the afternoon craving great Chinese food, give Sesame Inn a try. The delicious authentic food, as well as great service and ambiance, make it one of the city's top lunch destinations. As a bonus, this restaurant is located within walking distance of several great local coffeehouses and shops.
