The Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh is home to a lot of great local restaurants. Mercurio's is one of the best. This family-run gem serves excellent Neapolitan pizzas, available in a number of interesting combinations, as well as artisan gelato. Fortunately, they offer several healthy options and even a few vegetarian selections. If you are seeking great comfort food in a nice setting, this is your best bet for a great lunch experience.
The Neapolitan pizza at Mercurios is amongst the best in the Pittsburgh metro area. You will not be disappointed with the variety of options on the menu. Note that the pizzas are very small and will only serve 1-2 at most.
Start your meal off with a fresh salad (they are delicious). Pizza options include everything from Margherita, to Quattro Formaggi (4 cheese), to Contadina (eggplant and roasted red peppers). The Fungi featuring mushrooms and house made mozzarella is a great vegetarian choice. There are lots of choices for meat lovers, a few for vegetarians, and a marinara for vegans and anyone else avoiding dairy.
For all the sweet lovers out there, they serve fantastic gelato. The menu varies throughout the year, with everything from cookie dough, to peanut butter cup, to strawberry cheesecake on rotation. A variety of dairy-free flavors are also available so the lactose intolerant do not have to feel left out!
Service is always great here. The pizza never takes too long even on busier weekends, although there may be a wait to get inside due to the small space.
The dining space is modern and upscale although a bit cramped and noisy. There is little decor to speak of. However, the trendy location nearby many Shadyside shops and coffeehouses is a big bonus.
Mercurio’s is one of the best restaurants in Shadyside, as well as one of the best places to enjoy pizza in the "Burgh. Lots of options for everyone, plus you can't beat gelato right on-site for dessert! Pricing is affordable for the area and the great location nearby many shops is a big bonus.
