Han Dynasty is one of the best of the many Chinese restaurants found throughout Center City. Although Han has several locations throughout Philly, The Old City location definitely wins the award for best ambiance. The beautiful historical setting, along with great food and service, places Han near the top of my list of Old City must-trys.
Han specializes in Sichuan food. This type of Chinese food is on the spicy side and features entrees which use lots of peppers, garlic, and Sichuan peppers. Entrees are marked according to their spice level (1-10), so you will not be surprised by an insanely hot dish.
Han is especially known for their noodles, especially their Dan Dan noodles. While a bit too spicy (ground Sichuan peppers are used) for my taste, these noodles are super popular and well regarded. If you can handle a bit of spice you may want to give them a try.
The best part of the menu is the affordable lunch specials, ranging from just 9 to 12 bucks. On a side note, a section is devoted to vegetarian entrees.
We decided to go the non spicy route and tested out the spring rolls, fried rice, and lo mein. Everything we tried was wonderful. We especially enjoyed the complimentary tea.
Service here was great. Our waiter was very attentive and quick to refill any drinks. We appreciated the complimentary tea service. The great service made this a perfect choice for our lunch date: a great add on to the beautiful ambiance.
The ambiance here is just perfect for a date. Han is located inside an old restored bank building. The beautiful modern decor, dim setting, and high ceilings really give it an edge in the atmosphere department over nearby restaurants.
Han Dynasty is a great place for lunch after a long day exploring Old City. If you are in the mood for Chinese food, this local gem really offers the best food and ambiance in the vicinity. The nice decor and historic touch, plus great service, really make a wonderful Old City date destination.
