This long-running Greek restaurant, 3 generations strong, is one of the better dining choices in downtown Pittsburgh. If you are seeking authentic Greek cuisine in a charming setting, there is no better choice.
Christos Melacrinos began his career as a marine cook for the Aristotle Onassis fleet. The restaurant was opened in 1996 in Pittsburgh's Cultural District. Today, it continues to be a favorite of both locals and returning visitors who seek quality Greek cuisine. This is a great dining choice after exploring great local attractions like the Andy Warhol museum.
Christos features recipes from Ikaria, Greece (their hometown), a Blue Zone. Many of the entrees feature chicken, fish, or vegetables, so the cuisine is a bit healthier than most of the surrounding restaurants.
From cold appetizers like hummus and tabouleh, to hot appetizers like spanakopita and Greek pizza, there are lots of interesting choices to consider, whether you are craving comfort food or something a bit healthier. The hummus and pita bread is a great starter.
Dinner specials consist of entrees like Stuffed Cabbage, Pasta Melina, and Baked Mediterranean Fish. Other great grilled options include Moussaka and Chicken and Shrimp Santorini.
We tried the Chicken Kabob and the Spanakopita plate. Both were delicious and served with rice pilaf, Greek salad, and potatoes. The serving was a bit on the small size, although the price was right.
If you have room left over, they offer a number of great desserts. From the traditional Baklava to their signature dessert, the Onassis (vanilla cake topped with Greek honey syrup, custard and whipped cream), you really can't go wrong. And do treat yourself to a Greek coffee with your dessert.
The staff was really nice and we had a great time listening to them share some of their stories. One of the few businesses in the Pittsburgh metro to ask where we were from and engage in any small talk, so that was a nice refreshing change. It feels like every customer is treated like a guest here, rather than just a transaction.
The setting here is beautiful with colorful decor and lots of plants. The intimate vibe makes it the perfect date night destination! During the summer months, you can enjoy a lovely garden patio dining experience.
Christos is one of the best Greek dining choices in the Pittsburgh metro area. You will not be disappointed with the great food, service, and ambiance.
