Review Details

El Capitan Lodge & Casino is your best choice for lodging in the Hawthorne, Nevada area. As we were moving to the area, we needed a place to stay for a week. Mike and I checked out all the hotels in the area, and this by far was the best option in town. In addition to a casino, there is also an on-site restaurant, a seasonal swimming pool, and free coffee 24/7.

Appearance

El Capitan looks like a run down motel from the outside, however, it is not too bad once you step inside. And, it's hands down, the best option in town.

Although it is not very fancy, the room was clean and I didn't feel unsafe. Having the rooms connected to the casino would have been nice, unfortunately, you had to make a small walk across the street.

Amenities

Amenities included a seasonal outdoor pool, a business center, 24 hour coffee and tea, a pool table, and a shuttle. In addition, the hotel is located just a short walk from the El Capitan Casino, a small casino with slots, blackjack, live entertainment, and a 24 hour restaurant.

Price

We only paid $35 a night for the room, so obviously I am not going to complain. We were walking distance to the casino with the convenience of an on site restaurant. In addition, the 24 hour free coffee and tea came in handy. For under $40 a night this was a deal.

Room

The room was basic but provided all the basic necessities. Most importantly, it was clean. In addition, there was a microwave and mini fridge for our convenience. Smoking and non smoking rooms available. I wish it was 100% non smoking, hopefully they change it over in the future. Pet friendly rooms for an extra $20 charge.

Final Words

El Capitan Lodge & Casino is a great stopping point if you are traveling between Las Vegas and Reno. Instead of just stopping in a random motel for the night, you have access to a nice small casino which still uses real money as opposed to the slot tickets. An on site restaurant and free coffee makes for a convenient stay.
