The Empire Grill – Swansea, MA

The Empire Grill is located inside the Venus de Milo Restaurant and Banquet facility in Swansea, Massachusetts. After passing by the restaurant on multiple occasions, Mike and I finally decided to stop by. This hidden gem is located in an odd location, however, once you step inside you can see how the gorgeous setting would make it a great place for a special occasion.
Because I am a vegetarian (and most of the entrees are meat based), we decided to stop by on a Friday night for 1/2 priced appetizers at the bar. On Tuesday-Friday nights (4:00-9:00pm), The Empire Grill offers half priced appetizers if you sit at the bar.
The best fine dining in Fall River
The Greek themed decor including the mythological murals were very nice. However, the restaurant did seem to be catered to an older crowd (I didn’t notice any younger diners). The bar area was completely empty on a Friday night, which was pretty strange. Drinks were very expensive ($6 for a draft beer).

I ordered a bowl of Minestrone soup and had to send it back – who puts meat in Minestrone?! I have never seen this before! We ordered a few other appetizers including: mozzarella sticks (too dried out), Margherita pizza (very good), salads (nothing special), buffalo wings (Mike like them), and Clam Chowder soup (Mike thought it was pretty good).
While the ambiance was gorgeous, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of vegetarian options, the overpriced drinks, or the older atmosphere. The Empire Grill, while not suitable for vegetarian, will likely please anyone else seeking a fancy restaurant for a night out in Fall River.

What else is there to do in Fall River?
Fall River is a great little historical town with a beautiful setting on the Taunton River. Most famously, the town is known for the infamous Lizzie Borden murder trial. Today, you can stay in the (supposebly) haunted B&B or opt for a daytime tour. Also Battleship Cove is quite popular with history buffs.
