Bella Notte is a tourist favorite in the historic Strip District of Pittsburgh. If you find yourself exploring The Stip, definitely stop here for a casual and comforting Italian meal. The food and service are both great and you are within walking distance of many ethnic grocers, coffeeshops, sports stands, and the gorgeous riverfront path.
Bella Notte is most popular for their hoagies and specialty pizzas, although they do offer calzones, pasta dishes, wraps, and a number of filling salads.
We tried the Chicken Parmesan hoagie and also the Pasta of the Day. While the hoagie itself was great, the fact that they don't serve fries (only chips) was a bit of a bummer. The pasta of the day was a delicious marinara with sauteed zucchini and topped with Wisconsin cheese. It was filling, healthy, and a nice large portion.
Service was great. Our waitress had no problem making a few minor substitutions.
The vibe is definitely more sports bar than upscale Italian dining. If you are seeking something laid-back, Bella is a great choice. The outdoor patio is perfect for people watching during the warmer season, especially if there is an event going on.
Bella Notte is your best bet for a casual Italian dining experience in the Strip. The laid-back ambiance, and delicious affordable entrees makes it the perfect choice for tourists and locals seeking a good value and good food. After your meal, stop by the Pennsylvania Macaroni Co, a long time staple for Italian foods.
