Tandem is the best breakfast spot in Travelers Rest. Treat yourself to a decadent crepe before embarking on any of your adventures in the Upstate. Tandem offers a creative assortment of specialty crepes, both sweet and savory. Additionally, be on the lookout for seasonal specials, especially the amazing Pumpkin Pie crepe! I typically stop here for a crepe and cup of joe before hiking at Caesars Head or exploring Upstate waterfalls.
Tandem offers more than a dozen creative crepes, plus waffles and granola. A few must trys include the seasonal Pumpkin Pie, Tiramisu, and Roasted Roots crepes. Other tempting options offered recently have included Blueberry Cream, Chicken and Mushroom, and Tiramisu. White, wheat, cornmeal, as well as a gluten-free almond batter are available. Crepes are quite affordable at just $6-9 a piece. My favorite crepes I've tried thus far include the seasonal Pumpkin Pie and a savory Roasted veggie.
No need to make a separate coffee run as the coffee at Tandem is just as good as the crepes themselves. They serve coffee from the fantastic Methodical Coffee Roasters located in Greenville. Methodical is easily one of best roasters in the region, so do not hesitate to enjoy your morning cup of joe here. Prefer specialty drinks? They offer a whole lineup of espresso based drinks, including seasonal specials. Orange juice, hot tea, kombucha, and chai tea are also on the lineup.
Unfortunately, service is quite slow here due to the immense popularity. A line often begins to form on weekends shortly after opening. You could be waiting awhile just to order and even longer to get your food. If you are not one for waiting around, be sure to plan your visit on a slower weekday!
The ambiance at Tandem is quite hectic due to the small space and large crowds. On any given weekend, this place is really bustling. The decor is fresh and modern, although often times it is hard to enjoy the setting with so much traffic. The enclosed outdoor patio is great if you can score a seat.
On the downside, there is no waiter service. A huge line often runs through the restaurant as space is so limited. This just really is not a great setup for such a busy cafe. Hopefully, with increased growth they will offer waiter service.
Tandem is your best bet for a filling, delicious, affordable breakfast in the Travelers Rest area. If you find yourself traveling through this quaint town on your way to various Upstate parks and attractions, treat yourself to a one-of-a-kind crepe and delicious cup of coffee.
