Mike and I were craving something hefty after a long day exploring downtown Bisbee. We came across a local pizza place called the Screaming Banshee. This place is quite popular with tourists due to the funky vibe and freshly made wood-fired pizzas. After a long day on your feet exploring the sights downtown, a nice hot pizza and some comforting appetizers came in as a real treat.
Screaming Banshee is most well-known for their excellent wood-fired pizzas. Appetizers, pastas, salads, and calzones are also on the lineup. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious. In terms of pizza, you can either choose amongst a small selection of specialty pizzas or customize your own. A few of the specialities include: Wood Roasted Veggie and the Screaming Banshee featuring mozzarella, roasted onions and mushrooms and housemade fennel sausage. A gluten-free option is available for a few extra bucks. The staff had no problem letting us customize toppings on 1/2 the pizza. The pizza was decent enough - nothing to write home about, but good enough for a small town.
The company supports local businesses, using olive oil and vinegar from a local company as well as beans from local coffee roaster, Bisbee Coffee Company (which is the best coffee in town).
Service was friendly, although extremely slow. Our waiter forgot about our appetizer, although he was kind enough to comp us for the inconvenience.
This place was once an old gas station so the vibe is quiet eclectic. Odd art lines the walls for a truly unique touch. The interior is colorful and strange to be honest. The tables are a bit too closely cramped together, however, there were not many crowds on our visit so the ambiance remained peaceful. There is also a small outdoor seating section which looks out at the pretty surrounding mountain scenery.
Screaming Banshee is the best choice in town if you are seeking decent pizza. You really cannot go wrong with classic comfort food after a few hours exploring the historical attractions around town.
