Hollywood Walk of Fame: Can you find your favorite star?

The Walk of Fame is the famous 15 block section of Hollywood Blvd dedicated to stars of today and yesteryear. It is one of those touristy attractions that you have to visit just once to see what all the commotion is about. After one trip, you surely will not want to deal with the noise and traffic ever again. Honestly, there are many better attractions in the L.A. area, and Hollywood is overall quite overrated in my opinion. Once was definitely enough for more. I much prefer the beautiful hiking and bike paths, not to mention the world-class museums.
Update: After liviing in the area, I can confidently say that if you only have time for 1 thing in the L.A. area, I recommend hiking in the Santa Monica mountains or visiting the Griffith Observatory (the hikes are great here!), both of which offer amazing views of the region. Nevertheless, the Walk of Fame is fun to explore, if anything just to check another must-do off your bucket list. Really, you have to visit Hollywood at least once just to say you have done it. That being said, here is my guide to visiting the Walk of Fame.
2500+ “Stars” on display

More than 2500 stars line 1.3 miles of Hollywood Blvd. at the iconic Walk of Fame with new stars added yearly. The pink terrazzo star is familiar to most of us due to its’ presence in various media. Various actors, musicians & others in the entertainment industry have earned their place among the famous walk.
Nominations are turned in throughout the year. A committee meets during the summer to determine which celebrities will receive stars. The public is invited to attend the Walk of Fame star ceremonies. Visit the Hollywood website for information regarding upcoming celebrity ceremonies.

A photo tour of some of the well-known “stars”
This place was crazy crowded and it was hard to get pics next to your favorite stars, let alone any. Sometimes, you will be waiting a while. I recommend visiting during the week (which was still busy in our case), to at least cut down the traffic a little bit.
Musician stars
Country at its’ best! My favorites: Drive, Remember When (makes me cry everytime!), Gone Country, Where Were You.

Glad Britney is making a comeback after all those years of struggle! Stronger and Drive Me Crazy are my favorite songs.

Personally, I cannot stand The Voice, but I did grow up with Christina’s music. Favorite songs: Genie in a Bottle and Beautiful.

A guilty pleasure for sure! I would love to see Wayne perform in Vegas.

Movie Stars

From E.T., to Fever Pitch, so many great movies! He’s Just Not Into You is an underrated gem!

I am a big Travolta fan. I love all his movies, especially Grease, Face Off, Domestic Disturbance, Phenomenon, and Look Who’s Talking.

The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins are 2 of my favorite musicals.

As Cameron would say, “Ferris Bueller. You’re my hero.” I love Broderick and Ferris Bueller‘s Day Off. I’ve seen the movie over 100 times. As a Chicago local, this movie will always hold a special place in my heart. I am a complete 80’s movie buff and Ferris will always be at the top of my list! I also love Wargames, Project X, Deck the Halls, and The Cable Guy.

The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds – one of the best romantic comedies!

Matt Damon is such a classic actor. Really, are any of his films bad? I love Good Will Hunting, Dogma, and School Ties the most.

RIP Robin Williams. He really starred in some marvelous films and could really perform in both comedic and drama roles. My favorites are: Hook, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, and Mrs. Doubtfire.

TV Stars
I was addicted to Full House as a kid and still watch reruns to this day – I have probably seen each episode over 20 times. As a Millennial, I watched almost all those cheesy Olsen movies as a kid.

This is just a handful of the stars you will find at the Walk of Fame. You can browse around for hours looking for all your favorites. I advise going on a weekday morning in order to avoid the insane weekend crowds. It is easier to get pictures by your favorites without hoards of people around. This is by far one of the most congested tourist attractions in the city, so be aware that you were warned in advance!
Grauman’s Chinese Theater

This iconic theater, located in the same area, is a bit more interesting than the Walk of Fame. This gorgeous historic theater opened back in 1926 and still screens film to this day. On an interesting note, it was the first theater to have air conditioning! In front of the theater, you will find the famous celebrity hand, footprints, and autographs. Everyone has a fun time trying to match up their prints with their favorite celebrities. If anything this is a bit more interesting than the stars on the Walk of Fame as your favorite performers actually had molds taken of their hands and feet in the concrete.

Check out a few of my favorite hand/foot prints that I came across during my visit. As I mentioned, it was so crowded, so hard to take any decent pics.
The 50th Anniversary Time Capsule

The Harry Potter cast (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint). Harry Potter – I’ve seen the movies countless times, read each book at least 5 times, and visited The Wizarding World of Harry Potter over 5 times. My favorite Potter movie: The Chamber of Secrets! Favorite Book: Prisoner of Azkaban.

Dick Van Dyke
I love Marry Poppins! On a side note, boy does this guy age well. He looks fantastic even in his 90’s!

John Travolta
I had the unique opportunity to live on the same secluded Maine island as Travolta for a year. Pretty exciting as he is one of my favorites. Grease will always be my #1!

Matt Damon
Who else had the biggest crush on Matt Damon in the 90’s? Love Matt Damon! My favorites are Good Will Hunting, Dogma, and School Ties.

Will Smith
“Getting Jiggy With It” For some reason, I think of music first when I hear the name Will Smith. I do love Independence Day and The Fresh Prince.

Shirley Temple

Arnold Schwarzenegger
My favorite Arnold movie? Definitely Last Action Hero! What an underrated gem! Also love Terminator 2 – much better than the original!

Adam Sandler
My favorite Adam Sandler movie is definitely Happy Gilmore! Can’t beat that Bob Barker scene!

Al Pacino
The Godfather – enough said!

Cary Grant
I love Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle which heavily referenced the former!

George Clooney
I am probably one of the few people who never watched ER – I am not a fan of any medical related shows! I do love One Fine Day!

Frank Sinatra
Chicago is “My Kind of Town” as well.

Danny Kaye
White Christmas is my favorite holiday movie of all time! The music is so fantastic and the choreography is beautiful. I watch it every year without fail and even see it on the big screen when available.

Jim Carrey
Best Jim Carrey movie? My vote goes to The Mask, followed by The Truman Show. That being said, I love Jim Carrey and will watch just about anything with him in. An underrated classic is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Steven Spielberg
Best director of all time! My favorites: Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Jaws.

Judy Garland
The Wizard of Oz – a musical that stands the test of time.

Michael Keaton
Really, is anything with Michael Keaton in bad? I will watch any movie with Michael Keaton – the list is too long. My favorites: Multiplicity, Mr. Mom, Beetlejuice, Batman.

Robin Williams
One of the best comedians of all time. My favorites: Dead Poets Society, Jumanji, Mrs. Doubtfire

Robert Zemeckis
One of the best directors of all time. I have seen the Back to the Future series more times than I can count.

Richard Gere
Pretty Woman – one of the standout 80’s classics.

Jane Russell & Marilyn Monroe

Natalie Wood
I remember watching West Side Story so many times when I was younger. Natalie was so gorgeous.

Johnny Depp
Too many great Depp movies to choose amongst. I love: Secret Window, Pirates of the Caribbean, and all Tim Burton movies especially Edward Scissorhands.

Kevin Costner
Field of Dreams – what an iconic movie. I am not a huge baseball fan, but I absolutely am enchanted by this movie. I would love to visit the field from the movie someday.

Nicholas Cage
So many fun Cage flicks. My favorite is a little known gem called Honeymoon in Vegas! So much fun – you can’t beat those flying Elvis’s! I also love Faceoff, National Treasure, and The Family Man.

Julie Andrews
Any musical with Andrews in it is a fabulous watch.

There are over 200 celebrity hand and foot prints to explore. Make sure to give yourself enough time, especially if you plan on walking the entire 15 blocks.
Movie premieres
Watching celebrities walk down the red carpet for movie premieres is a fun, free fan activity. Check the Walk of Fame calendar for information on upcoming celebrity events. We were able to catch one premiere back when we lived in L.A. However, one time was plenty enough for us as it was way too crowded! The “Green Lantern” red carpet premiere was a fun event filled with several A-list celebrities, such as Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, and more!

Ryan Reynolds waving to the fans. A really fun experience to see one of my favorite actors in person. On a side note, Just Friends is by far the best Ryan Reynolds movie, and always will be 😉

Ryan Reynolds greeting fans

Tim Robbins – looks like he is having a great time!

Blake Lively walking the red carpet – what a gorgeous dress!!

Blake Lively signing autographs

Griffin spots a fan’s unique item. I really do not remember what it was, but it really caught his attention and he immediately came over!

Mark Strong signing autographs

Fans snapping pics of Zachary Levi

Max Adler (Karofsky from Glee). Glee is one of my favorite shows so this was pretty exciting!

Where to Dine & Shop Nearby
Hollywood & Highland Center (now Ovation) is a nice shopping, dining & entertainment complex. On the second floor, you are treated to amazing views of the Hollywood sign. Parking is a bit cheaper with restaurant validation! Hard Rock Cafe is a fun place to grab a bite, listen to some great rock music, and enjoy the rock themed atmosphere & memorabilia. Plus, the comfort food is just perfect for anyone on vacation – try the twisted mac and cheese!

Other Hollywood Blvd. attractions include: The Hollywood Wax Museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, the El Capitan Theater, and various trolley tours, including Starline Tours. Most of these are not my cup of tea, although the historic El Capital theater is supposed to be beautiful. Plus, they screen all Disney movies past and present, so if you are a fan of everything Disney, you may want to check it out!
