Review Details

Nine Mile is an exotic Caribbean inspired restaurant with 3 convenient Asheville locations. It is frequently rated amongst the best restaurants in the city, and thus, draws foodies and tourists looking for a unique and delicious meal. If you are seeking something a bit out of the ordinary, definitely put this local gem on your Asheville dining to-do list. They offer a number of vegetarian and gluten-free entrees, which makes it a great pick for anyone with special dietary concerns.

Food

Nine Mile is a great choice for adventurous diners, as well as anyone with any specific dietary allergens. Almost everything on the menu can be made either gluten-free or vegetarian. There are many unique flavorful pasta and rice dishes to choose amongst, with savory, creamy, and spicy options.

One must try here is the Cool Runnings dish. Note this dish has a bit of a kick as the black beans are really spicy. This entrée includes Cajun Chicken (sub veggies if desired) sautéed with bell peppers, mushrooms, and fire roasted tomatoes, served with a smoky gouda chipotle based sauce. Caribbean black beans, rice, and roasted jalapeno and pineapple salsa are served on the side. It's filling and totally worth the caloric splurge.

Ire Ites is the perfect entree for vegetarians. This satisfying creamy dish includes cavatappi pasta, fresh veggies and tofu topped with a dairy-free basil pesto sauce. I really loved the flavor of this dish. Note: this entree is also available with chicken. GF noodles can be substituted.

The entrees are a bit pricey, however, each comes with a small salad as well as garlic bread (Natty Bread) which is made using local bakery bread. Overall, this restaurant is a great value in a pricy tourist city.

Local Kombucha and beers, organic coffee, as well as wine are available. If you are looking to end your meal on a sweet note, treat yourself to a slice of Key Lime pie.

Service

Service at Nine Mile is great. The waitstaff is really attentive.

Atmosphere

The dining room is casual with a laid-back vibe and features eclectic decor. It's very colorful and modern. The setting is perfect for a relaxed date night or a fun night out on the town with friends.

Final Words

Nine Mile is an unusually creative restaurant offering choices for everyone even those dining vegan or gluten-free. If you are seeking delicious food in a funky setting, this is your best bet in Asheville. If you are seeking an eclectic dinner experience, you will likely appreciate the diverse menu offerings here.

The ambiance is a bit nicer at the historic Montford cafe, while the South Asheville location receives a bit less tourist traffic. Anyone not up for a very lengthy wait at this popular establishment may want to plan for an early dinner at the South Asheville location.
