Review Details

La Sierra is one of the most popular dining choices in the small North Central Arizona community of Payson. While not the best, nor the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted, La Sierra is a decent pick for anyone staying in or traveling through this small Arizona mountain town.

Food

La Sierra offers your standard, rather large menu of Mexican fare. You can pick amongst a wide range of traditional Mexican entrees like chimichangas, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, and more. While the Veggie Fajitas and Chicken Chimichangas were great, it was obvious that the food was not authentic style.

The fajita vegetables could have been more flavorful and also chopped a bit smaller as they were rather large and quite difficult to eat. The sides of guacamole, lettuce, and sour cream were way too small, considering the monstrous portion of veggies. Also, being served whole pinto beans as opposed to refried beans was disappointing. The Chimichanga was quite tasty - no complaints here.

The complimentary chips and salsa were excellent and they kept on coming. Unfortunately, when you over stuff yourself too much on the free chips, it is quite hard to finish the entree, especially Mexican food which is served in quite gigantic portions.

Unless you are dead set on authentic Mexican food, La Sierra should please as the food is tasty and the pricing is just right for what you get.

Service

Service was just average, not particularly memorable, but not bad either. Our waitress was efficient: our drinks were always refilled and the chips & salsa refills kept coming.

Atmosphere

The dining room of La Sierra is colorful and attractive. The atmosphere is perfect for a fun date or family night out.

Final Words

Overall, La Sierra is a nice casual dining choice in a tiny town like Payson, which honestly does not have an abundance of enticing options. While La Sierra will surely not be the best Mexican food you have ever tasted, dining here is a fun experience if you happen to be in the area. It's a great road stop choice if you happen to be passing through, and a nice dinner out if you are spending the night.
