Review Details

Big Nose Kate Saloon's is a lively saloon located on historic Allen Street in Tombstone, Arizona. After a full day on your feet exploring the various historical sites around town, lunch and live entertainment at Big Nose Kate's is sure to give your feet a much needed break. For those not familiar with the history of the town (you will learn lots on the trolley tour!), Kate was the first prostitute in Tombstone and also the girlfriend of Doc Holliday.

Food

The menu at Big Nose Kate's is exactly what you would expect at a rustic saloon: lots of burgers, fried apps (try the zucchini), chili, pizza, chicken tenders, and more. They are most known for their flame broiled 1/3 pound Ground Beef burgers. There are no added fillers and they are all made well done. They are served on a brioche bun with a pickle and fries (or onion rings for an extra charge). For those looking to keep it a bit healthier, you will find a selection of salads and paninis. We enjoyed the veggie loaded "Showdown salad" and a delicious chicken panini. On our next visit, I would like to try the Elote, which is Mexican street corn on the cob dipped in mayo, and topped with mild chili powder, parmesan, and cilantro. Pricing is reasonably affordable considering the touristy destination.

Service

Service here was upbeat even with the big afternoon crowds. Staff are always walking around asking if anyone wants their picture taken with props.

Atmosphere

Big Nose Kate's saloon is an entertaining stop for lunch after exploring Allen Street. In keeping up with the Wild West ambiance, you can take your pic behind the bar, dress up in old time props for pictures, and listen to live country entertainment. You can take your picture behind the bar or with a cowboy or saloon girl for free which adds to the touristy ambiance. This place is big, busy, and lively: the perfect compliment to a day out exploring Tombstone.

On a short historical side note, the saloon was at one point The Grand Hotel (which opened back in 1881), and is now considered to be a paranormal hot spot. Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday once stayed here!

Final Words

Overall, the cowboy western vibe at Big Nose Kate's saloon fits in perfectly with the overall Wild West ambiance of Tombstone. If you are looking for decent comfort food in a true saloon style environment, be sure to plan on lunch as this lively saloon.
