I came across this wonderful local gem while exploring Portland on a gloomy day. Portland Kettle is the place to go for a wonderful simple bowl of homemade soup. In a dreary, rainy city like Portland, a great soup place comes in as a real treat as there is really nothing better than a hot steaming bowl of soup on a cold, drizzly day. I loved the variety of options available even for vegetarians. The soup warmed me up a miserable day.
Offering a selection of freshly made from scratch soups daily, Portland Kettle is the place to go when you are craving a good bowl of soup. There are options here for everyone, including a vegetarian option daily and several GF selections. The broccoli cheddar and vegetarian chili are definitely worth trying if they happen to be on the lineup when you visit. Soup is served with the most delicious moist piece of cornbread. As someone who is not a huge fan of cornbread, I can say the cornbread here is pretty fantastic. Soup varies by the day. Recent selections include: Corn chowder, Chicken stew with leeks and carrots, and Cheese tortellini with pesto. In addition to soups, they offer a small menu of pita pockets, salads, and macaroni and cheese.
Service is friendly and the staff has no problem letting you sample any of the daily soups before committing to a purchase.
The vibe is cozy and local. The decor is very simple. Nothing fancy here, just a good local place to enjoy homemade soup.
A visit to Portland Kettle is definitely a must for any soup lovers staying downtown. There is no better place to enjoy a comforting bowl of homemade soup. The setting is casual, the soup is fantastic, and the location convenient to many attractions downtown. I would definitely return for another comforting bowl of soup on my next visit to Portland.
