Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of quality Chinese restaurants in the Upstate. While the atmosphere and service may be a bit lacking at Lieu's, the food itself is the most authentic you will find in the Greenville metro. If you are craving Chinese, definitely give Lieu's a try while in town. They serve the best appetizer selection of any Chinese restaurant in the region including delicious vegetarian lettuce wraps.
Lieu's offers traditional Chinese fare. Lunch is the best time to visit as the pricing is a bit more reasonable. The Fried Rice and Lo Mein we tested out were pretty good and the servings were rather large. The egg rolls were just okay, while the Egg Flower soup was delicious.
The highlight here is the great lineup of appetizers. From vegetarian lettuce wraps, to tempura green beans, to firecracker salmon rolls, there is an abundance of goodies to choose amongst.
Entree selections include your basic Chicken, Pork, Beef, Seafood, and Vegetarian selections, as well as Noodle and Rice based plates. You can never go wrong with a classic plate of Fried Rice. While the Fried Rice was good, it was not great. You always know fried rice is really good when you do not have to season it with extra soy sauce!
they offer a number of lunch specials (which include soup) from 11am-3pm daily. Options include choices such as Almond Chicken, Lo Mein, Shrimp with Lobster sauce, and Lieu's Spicy Chicken.
Service was not particularly friendly, refills were slow, and the presentation was a bit lacking.
The overall bland ambiance is definitely the downside of dining at Lieu's. The decor is pretty much non existent and the atmosphere quite uninviting. Extra little touches typical at most Chinese restaurants like complimentary tea were completely missing. On the bright side, the space appears very clean and well maintained. The setting should be nice for anyone seeking a low-key lunch destination.
Lieu's is a decent choice for Chinese food in the Upstate. If you are in the Greenville area, there are not that many decent Asian options to choose amongst. The egg drop soup is the best I've tasted in the area and I enjoyed the fried rice, although I wish they would spice up the decor a bit.
