Review Details

Le Bon is a nice quaint place to enjoy breakfast in the Capitol Hill area of DC. If you happen to be staying at the fantastic Capitol Hill hotel, this cute cafe is conveniently located just around the block. They offer a full espresso menu, plus morning pastries and breakfast entrees, along with paninis and salads for lunch.

Food

Breakfast is served all day on weekends and until 11am on weekdays. The menu here is quite simple - omelets, bagels with cream cheese, egg sandwiches, oatmeal, assorted pastries, etc. They also offer a special quiche of the day for anyone seeking something a bit more extravagant.

They serve a full espresso menu and use the highly regarded Illy espresso. The drinks here are quite good - much better than the food. In fact, stopping by for a pastry and cup of coffee is likely your best bet. Pastry selections include croissants, banana chocolate chip bread, scones, macarons, and muffins, so lots of tempting options.

The breakfast menu is diverse and includes both modern options (Avocado Toast, Acai bowl) along with traditional standards like omelets and Baked French Toast. Lunch includes a selection of salad bowls and sandwiches. Options range from Croque Monsieur, to Curried Turkey, to a Healthy Quinoa Southwest Salad with Avocado.

Service

Le Bon is a counter service restaurant. You will order at the counter and they will call out your food when ready. The staff was friendly, although they looked as if they were a bit overburdened. There did not seem to be enough staff working. Also the toaster was not working which was a bit inconvenient.

Atmosphere

The vibe here is super casual. This is a decent quick stop place to enjoy breakfast before venturing on your walk around the monuments. Because the setting is so low-key, you do not have to worry about dressing to impress. Keep in mind that seating is quite limited, especially on busy Saturdays.

Final Words

While the food is just average, the coffee here is quite good, and the pricing affordable. Thus, Le Bon Cafe is a nice quick choice for anyone seeking a cheap, no fret breakfast dining experience before exploring the tourist attractions. Next time, I will stick with one of the delicious looking pastries and an Americano.
