Il Canale is an amazing local Italian gem in Georgetown. Whether or not you are staying in the Georgetown area, it's worth making the trek over here to enjoy this wonderful restaurant. My cousin recommended dining here on our recent trip to DC, and I can say I was really pleased with the food, ambiance, and service. After your meal, you can enjoy the many great shops lining downtown Georgetown.
Il Canale is the only D.C. area restaurant to receive the top culinary honor from the Italy-American Chamber of Commerce, as well as the National Institute of Tourism. In 2018, it was rated one of the 70 best restaurants with pizzeria in the world!
The pizza is wood-fired in an oven imported from Napoli. Organic Italian "00" flour is used for the crust. If you are craving pizza during your vacation, this is the place to go for the most delicious & authentic.
Pizza aside, you will find a nice selection of tempting pasta dishes like lasagna, lobster ravioli, and gnocchi. For a real treat, start your meal off right with the Piatto di Verdure appetizer. This huge plate is big enough for 2-3 to share and includes grilled eggplant and zucchini, roasted bell peppers, marinated artichoke, and mixed olives. It's really delicious and definitely worth the price. One of the best apps I have tried anywhere: and the presentation is amazing too!
The Pesto pasta and Lobster Ravioli were 2 dishes that we would definitely consider ordering again. And do not skip out on dessert! The homemade tiramisu is a real treat! The espresso is perfect too, so relax a little bit longer with a nice Americano and a decadent dessert!
On a side note, Happy Hour deals are offered Monday-Friday, from 3 to 6pm.
Our waiter was professional and efficient. The place was not busy at all, and thus, our food came out rather quickly. The appetizers and entrees were spaced out accordingly.
The setting here is truly beautiful. Lots of attention was put into the design of the dining room. The artwork and brick walls are beautiful. This is the perfect choice for a date or family night out after exploring all the great D.C. attractions. Despite the nice decor, the restaurant retains a family-friendly casual vibe.
Take a break from all the Capitol Hill congestion for a quiet dinner at Il Canale in Georgetown. Take a walk down the quaint downtown and enjoy the lovely architecture, unique boutique shops, and then cap your night off with a wonderful Italian dinner.
