One of D.C.'s best local Chinese restaurants is located in Capitol Hill. Hunan Dynasty is easily accessible via a number of popular tourist hotels and attractions. If you are craving good Chinese food after a long day exploring The National Mall, Hunan Dynasty is a wonderful quaint choice where you can enjoy good food in a quaint setting. We walked to this great restaurant from the Capitol Hill Hotel and were very pleased with the food, service, ambiance, and convenience from our hotel.
Hunan is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in D.C. They specialize in Hunan and Szechuan cuisine, and also Japanese Sushi. The egg drop soup and egg rolls are so delicious. Everything we have tried has been delicious including the Chicken Chow Mein, Veggie Fried Rice, and Fried Rice.
For those looking to dine a bit healthier, they offer a special menu of entrees prepared without using MSG, salt, or oil. A variety of seafood, chicken, veggie, and tofu based dishes are included in the choices.
The best value is to visit during lunch hours, Monday-Friday 11am-2:30pm. At this time, complimentary steamed or fried rice plus a vegetable spring roll is included with each entree. Hunan is the perfect lunch spot as it is located within quick walking distance of many major attractions including The Library of Congress and the U.S. Capitol Building.
Service is always wonderful at Hunan. This place is a hidden gem that does not get overly busy with tourists so service is always extremely personalized. The wait staff is friendly and super attentive.
The dining room is beautiful, very elegant, clean, and classy. A large colorful aquarium greets you as you walk in. The decor is appealing and relaxing. It is the perfect place to wind down after a long tiresome day exploring history.
Give Hunan Dynasty a chance after a long day on your feet exploring the historical monuments and museums of Capitol Hill. The delicious food, great service, and quiet ambiance will be a real treat after a tiresome day exploring history.
