Review Details

Founding Farmers is a great healthy choice after exploring attractions in the Capitol Hill region. This is an upscale American chain with numerous locations through the mid-Atlantic states. The restaurant is owned by the North Dakota Farmers Union, with supplies coming from family farms across the country. Everything on the menu is prepared in-house daily. Here you can expect quality, made-from-scratch American cuisine. A family member recommended we try this place out on our first DC trip, and I have to say we were all pleased with the food & ambiance.

Food

Founding Farmers serves high quality homemade food. They churn their own butter, grind their own beef, and even make their own bread. For any health conscious diners visiting the Capitol Hill region, this is definitely one of the better choices.

At Founding Farmers, you can enjoy healthier versions of American favorites. This is definitely a place that everyone in your party can enjoy as their is so much diversity on the menu.

From fresh flatbreads with farm fresh toppings, to sandwiches and burgers, to housemade pasta creations, there truly is something for everyone. And for the vegetarian in your party, there is a whole dedicated section which includes a roasted vegetable and avocado sandwich and a cauliflower steak.

If you are craving something truly comforting, go with the seven cheese macaroni or the butternut squash mascarpone ravioli. Both of these dishes were over-the-top creamy and delicious: the perfect treat after putting in over a dozen miles! I really need something hearty and comforting after walking over 10 miles exploring The National Mall and Smithsonian museums, and this food definitely satisifed.

Service

Service was fast and efficient here. Even with the big crowds, the food did not take long and the servers remained friendly.

Atmosphere

The interior is beautiful, yet still casual enough that you can come in wearisome after a long day exploring all the Capitol Hill attractions. The ambiance is bustling and lively, thus making this a great vacation restaurant for families wanting to kick back after wearing out their feet all day long walking from museum to museum.

Final Words

Give Founding Farmers a shot after your day of sightseeing. The casual vibe, delicious food, and convenient location makes it the perfect choice post-exploration of Capitol Hill area museums and attractions. I highly recommend treating yourself to the Butternut Squash ravioli!
