Review Details

The Dark Harbor is a seasonal summer restaurant located on Islesboro, a beautiful island off the coast of Maine. This island soars from a year-round population of just 400 to thousands as those seeking a quiet getaway from nearby cities flood in. The shop sells sandwiches, ice cream, snacks, and more. This is one of the few places to eat on the island, and fortunately, the food is fantastic! I had the opportunity to live on this gorgeous island for a year. This was a fantastic place to dine during the summer season!

Food

The Dark Harbor Shop is most well known for serving great ice cream, although they also offer sandwiches and wraps for lunch.

The vegetable sandwich which I ordered was great. You must also try a milkshake! The root beer floats are to die for as well. They are very popular amongst island residents. A local actually recommended we try the root beer float and we loved it!

Service

I did not experience any problems as the waitress was friendly and brought everything over in a timely manner.

Atmosphere

Although the space is quite small, the highlight is a nice patio which is great for relaxing during the summer months. On a rainy/cold day, take a seat inside and browse through local newspaper and magazines.

According to long time island residents, this shop is a hotspot for meeting celebrities that live on the island as they frequently stop in for a bite. I always hoped to run into John Travolta or Chris O'Donnell, but it never happened!

Final Words

I recommend eating at the Dark Harbor shop if you take a summer trip to Islesboro. The food is simple, but healthy and fresh. There is a great souvenir shop located inside the restaurant that I recommend browsing around after your lunch.
