The Phoenix metro area offers no shortage of fantastic authentic Mexican restaurants. If you are a tourist new to the area, you will probably find yourself strolling around Old Town Scottsdale at one point or another. There are a number of great Mexican restaurants lining this Old western downtown.
A wonderful casual option, Cien Agaves, features a fun & festive environment and great happy hour specials. As an added bonus, this restaurant is within walking distance to many great shops selling handcrafted Mexican goods.
Cien Agaves is a favorite amongst tourists due to its' convenient touristy location, fun ambiance, and quality food. While they do not serve the best Mexican food in the metro, the food is decent enough to warrant a visit, especially if you are already in the area exploring the sights around Scottsdale.
Whether you are in the mood for tacos, fajitas, chimichangas, enchiladas, a stuffed burrito, or simply a few tasty appetizers, Cien Agaves has you covered. App selections include: Cheese Crisp, Cervice, Guacamole, and Tingua Taquitos. The complimentary chips and salsa are quite addictive.
As far as entrees go, Mike enjoyed The Tinga Chicken Chimichanga. Of course, you cannot go wrong with a few tacos either. Cien offers tacos a la carte, so you can mix and match and try several flavors. I recommend the Papas con Queso - seasoned potatoes smothered in Mexican cheeses and topped with green chilies. I would definitely order these again: super delicious and vegetarian!
Service is friendly and attentive enough, although the food takes a while due to the heavy traffic. Fortunately, the chips and salsa will keep you occupied while you wait!
The decor is very eccentric and colorful with a bright blue wall and all sorts of local art and quirky decorations. I enjoyed the colorful artwork. The atmosphere is upbeat and fun, thus making it the perfect choice for tourists seeking a fun themed vacation restaurant.
Cien Agaves is a great lunch option after strolling around the shops and galleries of Old Town. For anyone seeking Mexican food in a lively environment, Cien Agaves is the way to go.
