Alfred Coffee is a cute little line of local coffee shops in the L.A. region. The serve wonderful coffee in a modern setting. The Brentwood cafe features a wonderful little outdoor patio area that is perfect for people watching. The coffee here is amongst the best I have tried in the area.
Whether you choose to sit outside spending a leisurely morning sipping coffee while enjoying the beautiful Southern California weather, or whether picking up a cup to go to accompany you while strolling the nearby shops, a trip to Alfred is a must! So skip generic nearby chains like Coffee Bean and Starbucks in favor of this local gem.
Alfred's menu includes all your typical espresso drinks, along with hot chocolate, chai lattes, fresh pressed juices, and hot tea. The Americano was so smooth and delicious. I usually cannot stand regular house blend coffee, although Alfred's was pretty delicious, being that it was not too weak, nor too bitter. The coffee presentation was nice with cute mugs and saucers. I always appreciate shops that offer proper mugs as opposed to paper cups.
Alfred is well known for their incredibly pricey $7 latte. Yes, you read that right. The latte includes just 3 ingredients - espresso, milk, and vanilla bean syrup, yet many L.A. locals love it so much that they do not mind the upcharge! I would love to try the Matcha Cloud Cream one day (fluffy cream blended with vanilla syrup poured over milk and matcha). Other signature drinks include: Hot Vanilla Latte, Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte, and the Hot Matchaga which is basically matcha blended with lion's mane, chaga & reishi mushrooms, with monk fruit and vanilla, as well as and a tiny hint of strawberry topped with steamed milk. br>
Alfred brews Stumptown Coffee, a highly regarded roaster with locations in both NY and L.A. Aside from drinks, you can enjoy a fresh "healthier" pastry from Farm Shop. Options include almond croissants, GF blueberry muffins, banana bread, and a chive and gruyere scone. They also offer a few breakfast items including 3 different burritos and organic bagels (various cream cheese including plant based are available).
Service was friendly and fast. The baristas let us grab an extra refill to go as we were in a rush, even though technically refills are only offered to dine-in customers.
This Brentwood location is pretty small without a whole lot of indoor seating. However, the lovely outdoor seating area makes up for the lack of space indoors. Who wants to sit inside in beautiful Southern California anyways?!
Alfred is known for their trademark slogan "But First, Coffee." You will see the slogan around all their coffee shops. You can even buy merchandise with the slogan, and I have to admit it is pretty cute.
As an added bonus, they are open pretty early (6am), making it a convenient choice for anyone with early morning plans like hiking.
Overall, Alfred Coffee is one of the best local espresso shops in the L.A. area. I recommend skipping the chains and supporting a cute local business. As far as trendy and stylish coffee shops go, Alfred is one of the area's best. Stick to the classic espresso drinks over the popular specialty lattes, and it will not seem all that overpriced. A beautiful outdoor seating area and great service make Alfred one of the top choices in the city for a relaxing coffee break.
