The El Capitan Diner is located inside the El Capitan Lodge & Casino in Hawthorne, Nevada. Mike and I moved to this tiny town from Chicago to take a teach job. It's been rough finding quality restaurants in a tiny town with a population under 3000. I have been to this diner several times simply because they run a lot of specials. The food is mediocre at best, however, the affordable pricing makes it great for a late night snack!
El Capitan Diner offers your standard cafe options like sandwiches, salads, and all day breakfast entrees. I usually order the breakfast special which comes with eggs, potatoes, and toast. I usually get the salad bar too which offers a decent selection of toppings and dressings available. I also like the buffet offered on Wednesday nights.
The service has always been adequate. While it hasn't ever been spectacular, it has never been bad.
Being located in the casino, you would think it would be noisy. However, it is located in a separate room so the noise level is never too bad. Nothing too fancy here in terms of decor: it just feels like your average diner experience.
If you are visiting the El Capitan Casino, you might as well try out the diner while you are here. If you are a Hawthorne resident, make sure to check out the Wednesday night buffet!
