Winter Park, a beautiful city located just North of Orlando, is home to some of the area's best choices for those choosing to dine vegan and/or gluten-free. Ethos Vegan Kitchen is one of the premier vegan restaurants in Florida. The large menu, lively atmosphere, and attractive large open space set it apart from most traditional vegan restaurants in the area.

The Ethos menu features a long list of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, and desserts. Everything on the menu is completely vegan; no animal products are used at all. The restaurant says that they use at least 50% organic, which is hard to come by when dining out. At Ethos you will find a lot of options not typically offered at vegan restaurants such as mashed potatoes and ice cream sundaes. Both the food and atmosphere are more fun than most vegan restaurants, proving that eating healthy doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice a good time! You will see that many of your favorite fun foods like lasagna, milk shakes, and pizza can now be ordered. There are several tempting appetizers including garlic knots, crispy green beans, and bruschetta. The Healthy Trio (Blue corns chips, fresh cut veggies, with olive tapenade, hummus & salsa for dipping) is a safe bet for anyone as it can be made soy and gluten-free. This appetizer is huge and very filling. The Hippie Wrap (homemade hummus, tomatoes, sprouts, peppers, and cucumbers) served with blue corn chips was an excellent choice, and also affordably priced at only $7. Any sandwich can be made gluten-free with a brown rice wrap substitution. Black beans and rice, sauteed vegetables, and mashed potatoes and gravy are available as a side for a slight upcharge. The soup of the day, tomato basil, was an excellent accompaniment to the sandwich. It's not too often that you find a tomato based soup that is both vegan and gluten-free. Many menu options can be customized to be gluten and/or soy free. These items are marked as so to take out unnecessary questions. An easily readable menu with clear allergy markings is truly a bonus after dining in many restaurants where the waitstaff has no clue.

Waiters are knowledgeable about vegan food and will be glad to offer suggestions, rather than viewing you as an inconvenience. Servers are friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have about the menu or particular ingredients.

Ethos feels like a regular restaurant, not a place that just serves vegan food with no ambiance. There is a host, waiter service, and a full bar. The vibe is trendy with large crowds, attractive urban decor, and upbeat music. Dining out, whether for a specific food allergy or simply because you want to avoid animal products, no longer feels strange as soon as you step in the door; you will quickly see how many other people are following the same diet.

At Ethos, the food is tasty and affordable, service is friendly, and the overall setting is wonderful. A vegan restaurant which such a hip atmosphere is hard to come by in Florida, thereby making Ethos a must-visit on any Orlando trip!
