Exo Roast is one of the top independent coffee shops in Tucson. This local roaster, found in the downtown area, features the best tasting coffee in town, as well as a great urban vibe. If you are planning to check out the Tucson Museum of Art or any other attraction near downtown, I recommend starting your day out with a perfectly brewed cup of coffee at Exo Roast.

Exo sources its coffee from small shade grown farms around the world and tries to source organic and fair shade beans. Exo also offers a small breakfast menu and a handful of delicious pastries each day, some of which are gluten-free. The carrot cake muffins are so delicious - if available, I highly recommend treating yourself to one. Exo uses local ingredients as much as possible so you can feel good knowing that you are eating something a bit fresher and healthier than you would get at a typical chain. Beans are roasted in small batches in a gas-fired German Probat roaster. This is supposed to keep the burns from burning, and I can say it works well as the coffee at ExoRoast is very rich and flavorful without that gross burnt aftertaste which is so common at big chains which roast their beans in larger batches and cover up the taste with lots of sugary drinks. The menu includes all your basic espresso drinks, plus pour over, hot chocolate, and a selection of high quality Maya and Seven Cup teas, a wonderful local authentic tea house which is definitely worthy of a visit of its' own. Although you will not find as many specialty fancy latte and mocha drinks, they know their coffee and put more focus more on high quality drinks rather than an endless menu of sugary drinks. The prices are really affordable here, considering the delicious quality coffee and nice downtown location. Refills of the wonderful drip coffee are just 50 cents.

Service at Exo Roast is typically always pretty fast and friendly. Every once in a while you get the odd rude barista, however, on a whole baristas have been pretty friendly.

The atmosphere at Exo Roast is terrific, very urban and modern. The exposed brick walls and big windows looking downtown make it feel more like a big city coffee shop. It definitely has a bit more characters than most of the other bland chain like shops in town. Exo Roast offers a different ambiance than most other coffeehouses in the Tucson area, so check it out if you are looking for something a bit different than the norm in the city. The cool design and industrial like setting give a hipster vibe, so if that is you cup of tea then you will love Exo Roast.

Exo Roast is one of the best local coffee shops in Tucson. It's a great place to escape the heat during the brutal summer months. Instead of picking up a coffee to go from a common chain, treat yourself to a bold and delicious cup of coffee from this wonderful local roaster.
