Bella Luna, an eclectic pizza restaurant in Jamaica Plains, is just a short drive away from downtown Boston. This uniquely styled restaurant serves great pizza in a lively atmosphere. We stumbled in here by accident, however, we were pleasantly surprised with the funky atmosphere, the quality food, and the friendly service.

Bella Luna is not at all like your standard pizza pub. The menu is creative and includes lots of healthy variations. The highlight on the menu is the "Make Your Own Galactic Pie" section, which includes plenty of different toppings that you can mix to create your own perfect pizza. I had an excellent roasted garlic and onion pizza. This is a great option for those with allergies since they have a gluten-free crust available! In addition, a variety of sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and pasta are available. Mike ordered the "Out of this World Bean Burger," a vegetarian specialty consisting of black beans, quinoa, red onions, carrots, cheese, red peppers, and spices. This is an excellent healthy choice for those who are avoiding meat. The deviled eggs and sweet potatoes fries were great as well. Next time, I would like to try the "Grilled Stuffed Avocado," which is marinated avocado stuffed with roasted red peppers, lentils, and quinoa: sounds delicious and healthy!

Service was friendly and attentive. The waitress was nice enough to bring out a list of ingredients for me when I asked about ingredients in the gluten free crust. I am trying to avoid soy products and I found out that soy in fact was a main ingredient. Allowing me to see the list enabled me to avoid the soy based crust.

The unique design of the restaurant including brick walls, high ceilings, and steel columns is the result of being housed in an old brewery. I also enjoyed the unique star shaped lamps, bright red tables, photography, and hand painted plates. There is definitely a lot to look at while waiting for your food! Basically, Bella Luna is the complete opposite of your standard chain: anything but boring! There is a large bar area which is perfect for meeting friends for the night. At night, the focus is on entertainment with cool events (trivia, DJs) and a dance floor. During the summer months, you can relax outside on the cozy patio. This is a great way to enjoy the cool summer nights in Boston.

I would dine at Bella Luna again. I liked the colorful dining room, unique decor, delicious pizza, and variety of vegetarian options available on the menu. Next time, I will probably sit outside on the patio and enjoy the end of the summer!
