Original Rainbow Cone

The Original Rainbow Cone is an ice cream shop which has been around for over 86 years in the Chicago area. There are 2 locations: one downtown and one in the Beverly area. I first tasted this cone at a neighborhood carnival (they often had a tent set up at neighborhood fairs). It was so delicious that I decided to stop in the original shop located in Beverly.

The original rainbow cone is made up of 5 different flavors including: chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (NY vanilla with cherries and walnuts), Pistacio, and orange sherbert. Prices are pretty reasonable and range from $1.49 for a baby cone to $4.09 for a large cone. In additional to cones, there are banana splits, sundaes, additional ice cream feature flavors, and cakes available. Service was pleasant and fast. Surprisingly, there was no line like I expected there to be.

This location is home to the original historic pink building. There aren't many places to sit inside besides the window sills, so we decided to take our cones to go.

The Original Rainbow Cone in Chicago is a great treat during the summer months. The combination of the 5 different ice cream flavors is even better than you can imagine. Whether you are in the suburbs or downtown, make room to stop by an get an ice cream cone this summer!
