Hideaway House

Sedona's Hideaway House is one of many touristy restaurants located along Hwy 89. Although a bit pricey, it's one of the better choices (the food is good, and the views are great!) in a town overpopulated with tourist traps. While the service could be more friendly and personable, the tasty food, stunning red rock views, and breezy tree house like outdoor patio, make it one of your best bets on your Sedona vacation.

The Hideaway menu is pretty diverse with many casual Italian entrees like pizza and pasta. The owners call it "curious country Italian." Almost everything on the menu is homemade including the soup stock, the bread, the salad dressings, and the dessert. It was a bit of a wait for the food, however, we did not mind as it was fresh and delicious and we would much rather wait for home cooked food versus that out of the can/frozen! Out of the appetizers, the Garlic Cheese Bread Blossom is an absolute must-try. This was so good that we considered ordering another, however, the servings are pretty big here so we decided to wait until next time. The homemade minestrone soup, served with a side of mini grilled cheese, was so delicious: flavorful, without being too salty. We also tried out the Vegaterreanean salad (a filling & unique mixture of romaine, artichoke, basil, roasted red pepper, sun dried tomatoes, red onions, feta, cucumbers, and kalamata olives). It was very tasty and filling, although the waitress forgot to put the dressing on the side (as requested), and so it was a bit drenched. We also tried out the cheese pizza, which was by far, the best we have had to date in Northern Arizona. A variety of specialty pizzas, as well as a create your own selection is available. Other menu choices include sandwiches, crustinis (toasted bread with a variety of topping choices), a small selection of pasta dishes, and a few meat/seafood based entrees. You will find a pretty long list of tempting desserts to choose amongst, that is if you are not already stuffed from your over sized entrees. Most of these are homemade, including a delicious Black Forest Ice Cream Cake (a brownie layered with black cherry ice cream, topped with vanilla bean and homemade brownie bits). Overall, everything on the menu sounds tempting, and everything we have tried has been delicious. I will definitely be back to try the homemade Alfredo sauce, the roasted vegetable tower, and most definitely, a dessert! Pricing was a bit high, although not unexpected for the area. We left satisfied with the both the value (the portions were pretty big) and the overall quality of the food.

Service was one of the few downsides of our visit. Our waitress was just not personable, did not check back on us that often, and did not seem to really care whether or not we like the food. Perhaps we just got unlucky and got served by a grump?

The main draw of dining at Hideaway is the expansive 2 floor outdoor deck that resembles a treehouse. From here, you can enjoy fantastic views of the red rocks while feasting on your favorite comfort dishes. Unlike other restaurants in town, you can relax, without at all feeling like you are being rushed. It is one of the more laid-back and spacious restaurants with a view in the area. It's a great choice after your Sedona hiking adventures as you can refuel with some hearty carbs while still soaking in the views. The nature like setting of the seating area goes hand in hand with the beauty of Sedona.

Overall, Hideaway House is definitely one of the better restaurants in Sedona. Besides the fantastic views, the food is actually pretty good. Unfortunately, it is hard to come by a Sedona restaurant that offers both good food and a good setting, however, Hideaway House somehow manages to do both well.
