Amelia Island Coffee

Located on historic Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach lies a quaint little individual coffee company called Amelia Island Coffee. It is one of the sole choices in the area to enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee. The coffee is fantastic and the location convenient to other downtown restaurants and attractions. It's always nice to check out random coffee shops and cafes while traveling, especially as an alternative to chain choices like Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts.

Amelia Island Coffee offers an extensive food and drink menu including espresso based drinks, a selection of frozen specialties like smoothies, milkshakes and root bear floats, an assortment of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, and a few light lunch entrees. Prices are a bit high, although expected as they are the only decent coffee shop on the island. The Americano drink was very good. We were also pleased that they had non-dairy milk substitutes on hand. Surprisingly, many coffee shops still do not offer dairy free milk! We were also pleased that they used mugs versus paper cups. Serving coffee in a paper cup defeats the point of enjoying coffee outside of the house in a nice coffee shop atmosphere: a fact that many coffee shops still do not get. The baked goods looked very tempting (muffins, scones, etc), and they even had a gluten-free and vegan cookie for those following a dairy and gluten restricted diet.

Service was great. Our barista was very friendly and made a great Americano drink.

The interior of the shop was being remodeled during our visit, so I cannot say much about the design. They did have a few small tables and a couch set up during the remodel. They have a nice large open space, so I would be interested to find out how the remodel turns out. The shop is conveniently located in the heart of Fernandina's quaint downtown area.

Amelia Island Coffee is one of your only choices for a great cup of coffee in Fernandina Beach. It's a great alternative to a chain shop, whether you choose to grab a cup for your walk around downtown or simply sit and relax with a big mug while enjoying the local coffee shop scene.
