El Capitan looks like a run down motel from the outside, however, it is not too bad once you step inside. And, it's hands down, the best option in town. Although it is not very fancy, the room was clean and I didn't feel unsafe. Having the rooms connected to the casino would have been nice, unfortunately, you had to make a small walk across the street.
The room was basic but provided all the basic necessities. Most importantly, it was clean. In addition, there was a microwave and mini fridge for our convenience.
We only paid $35 a night for the room, so obviously I am not going to complain. We were walking distance to the casino with the convenience of an on site restaurant. In addition, the 24 hour free coffee and tea came in handy. For under $40 a night this was a deal.
El Capitan Lodge & Casino is a great stopping point if you are traveling between Las Vegas and Reno. Instead of just stopping in a random motel for the night, you have access to a nice small casino which still uses real money as opposed to the slot tickets. An on site restaurant and free coffee makes for a convenient stay.
