Reno, also known as “The World’s Biggest Little City,” is aptly named for the abundance of attractions found in a relatively small city. Reno offers many of the benefits of bigger cities like Las Vegas, but without all the commotion and big crowds.
The Grand Sierra Casino & Resort is my favorite hotel in the city. They offer great prices and promotions, especially if you sign up for their email and Player’s card club. This resort offers everything under one roof including gaming, restaurants, a decent sized fitness center, an arcade, a spa, go-karts, a movie theater, a bowling alley, an outdoor pool, nightclubs and more! You don’t even need to leave the property to have a fantastic time!
The El Dorado Showroom hosts Broadway style shows throughout the year. Tickets are cheap especially with your Player’s Card discount.
El Dorado is home to one of the nicer poker rooms in Reno. It is spacious, elegant, the dealers are always nice and professional, and complimentary (self-service) drinks are available.
Toucan Charlie’s buffet inside the Atlantis Casino is a real treat both in terms of food and décor. The tropical rainforest style is appealing as are the breakfast buffet offerings. Visit during the week for a 2 for 1 special.
Located in the downtown area, this sign is a great spot for photo opportunities.
Mustang’s is a country themed bar located inside the Grand Sierra Resort which offers live music and entertainment. Free line dancing lessons are offered throughout the week. Definitely a unique place to people - lots of crazy characters out there!
Thanksgiving is a great time to visit Reno. In addition to the fantastic holiday decorations at all the casinos, there are plenty of extra shows and promotions going on during this time. Check out this gigantic annual 9 foot Gingerbread House on display at the Grand Sierra Resort!
If you are a fan of Carnival Games, then you will love Circus, Circus. Test your hand at skeeball, basketball and other Midway games. The casino often hosts acrobat and other entertaining circus shows.
The Lodge Buffet inside the Grand Sierra is one of the best buffets in Reno. I love the woodsy theme. This buffet offers the best overall bang-for-your-buck in Reno – great food at an affordable price.
In addition, the casino often offers incredible promotions for Player’s Card members (buffets as low as 10 bucks).
Lake Tahoe is just an hour drive away from Reno. As one of the most stunningly beautiful areas of the country, you can't afford to pass up the quick day trip while you are in such close proximity.
During the summer months, you can check out the scenic gondola ride at Heavenly Village or go hiking in beautiful Emerald Bay State Park.
Come winter, skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, sleigh rides, and every other winter recreational activity you can imagine will keep you more than busy.
